Microsoft didn't get GTA IV's DLC delay memo [Update] photo

Before the weekend, Take-Two announced that the Xbox 360's exclusive Grand Theft Auto IV DLC would be delayed until next year, but it seems that Microsoft has other ideas. The company, which paid a David Bowie's ransom for the downloadable content, is still pretty sure we'll be seeing more from Liberty City later this year.

"Comment from us stays at: ‘The first of the Xbox 360 exclusive "Grand Theft Auto IV" episodes will be available beginning fall 2008," stated an MS rep. I love the way that's worded, as if to say that content will come even if Shane Kim has to make it himself out of some tins and a bit of old string. It doesn't seem to matter what Take Two's intentions are.

Can't really fault The 'Soft on this one. A lot of money changed hands for that content and I imagine MS expected it on a certain date. In the meantime, someone needs to fetch Shane some string.

[Update: Microsoft sent me an email just to let me know that the company did, in fact, get the memo but isn't worried. As some readers have pointed out, T2's 2009 fiscal starts in November, so even though there is a slight delay, The 'Soft still happily expects GTA IV DLC in 2008. Good news for all!]

the longer they take should translate as us getting more for our gamer points, though i can stilll guarentee that whatever we get as content will be nowhere near worth the 1200 or 2400 points MS will expect us to shell ot for it

What's "David Bowie's ransom" referring to? Is there some a new stations with DLC that features a Bowie song? Is David Bowie a NPC from real life like Ricky Gervais? Or are you referencing David Bowie to be "totally random"?

Microsoft wants to set up a meeting with Take Two to have a little chat about their kneecaps.

Beat the game, and I dont think the online is going to hold me till this comes out. Did having this exclusive really move enough more 360s than PS3s for it to be worth it? I doubt it.

I'm pretty sure Rockstar said that GTA IV DLC would be released in fiscal year '09. That means it could still be released in Fall 2008.

This DLC will have to be really fricking amazing for me to shell out more money to play even more archaic missions in a boring game world.

Sorry. I'm roughly 83% through IV and it's like a chore. I'm not even enjoying it anymore and haven't been for quite a while. I want to like the game, I really do, but it's just so... boring. Sigh.

Maybe Jim Sterling didn't get the memo?! ;)

Take Two delayed the DLC until their "Fiscal Year" Q1 2009, which is actually November 1, 2008 - January 31, 2009. So I'm pretty sure MS got the memo and are talking from the same sheet when they say Fall 2008.

As TWODOGSz said, it's already been established that Take Two's q1 2009 begins in November 2008, so they aren't really contradicting each other. MS was obviously just trying to clear up any misunderstanding about the anouncement.

lol, but Take-Two were pulling the old "There's so many great games out already, so we'll intentionally delay it"-argument, which really just means that its not finished. But the DLC IS finished more or less if I understood this correctly. So I can understand if MS is leaning on them.
