Now that the buzz surrounding Halo 3 has come to pass, fans of the series have been chomping at the bit to have at it with the next mythic adventure in the Halo universe, Halo Wars. Up until this point, we were all led to believe that the RTS game was strictly for the Xbox 360 -- then came whispers from gaming site Angry Pixel that this just wasn't the case. Quoting an inside source they claim to have at Microsoft:
"Halo Wars, touted as an Xbox 360 exclusive, is also apparently in development for the PC. But that's not all - apparently the game will also feature cross-platform play, a la UNO and Shadowrun, between gamers on the Microsoft console and their PC counterparts."
We get to the bottom of this -- or do we? -- after the jump.
Whether or not we had any doubts, it seemed reasonable enough at the time. Considering that RTS games and PCs are a match made in Heaven, it didn't exactly strike us as impossible. Consequently, IGN decided to contact the guys at MS themselves, and the illusion was soon dissolved (well, maybe not):
"Halo Wars is being developed from the bottom up for the Xbox 360 and its control scheme to ensure that we deliver a groundbreaking console RTS experience. Given that, we have no plans to develop 'Halo Wars' for Windows Vista at this time."
If you are the Matlocking type (plenty of those around here), you no doubt zeroed in on the words "at this time" as the door still being open on this one. Will Halo Wars find itself on the PC somewhere down the line? If consumers say it must be so, I bet it does. Games like Halo cost a mint to produce, and only a fool turns down money.
I hope they eventually release it for PC. The idea of an RTS on a console seems strange to me.
Why else would he mention vista unless thats where they were thinking of porting it?
They even has to release patches for hteir vista games to run on XP.
And the RTS in 360 still sounds strange.
Now, all the console fan fags will continue to spew the same crap that PC gaming is dead. Well, it's not and won't be killed anytime soon.
If i had to install vista, i'd just stick my PC into the microwave for 10 minutes.
I think it's cool that it's being designed for the 360 control scheme, but I'm fairly certain they'll release a buggy outdated version for windows later on, like Halo and Halo 2 (and probably Halo 3).
Course I can call you a PC fag but I disgress, I'm sure you're having fun with your huge variety of titles like shooters and MMO's and shooters and RTS games and shooters and... uh, more shooters I guess.
PC won't die, it just sucks, this is an undisputable fact of life, try as you might, you can't argue against it.
And who cares about control? Everyone will be playing it with a controller anyway so no advantage or disadvantage.
And I agree with nutt though, Halo fans being generalized as morons who can't do anything but shoot, I have never seen someone say that before in D-Toid or otherwise.
Though I still imagine it will be released on PC, sorry, Games for Windows.
(does this mean microsoft will make it now, I hope so...)
No interest? STFU.
I will say that if there is a choice between PC and console I'll of course get the console version. You know, provided the game is any good.
Of course if it has anything to do with a good chunk of Halo lore I'll pick it up despite averageness.
I think the reason they aren't porting it now is because it'll get shat on by real games like Supreme Commander and Sins of a Solar Empire.
