Microsoft: allow us to repeat ourselves, no Halo Wars on PC photo

Now that the buzz surrounding Halo 3 has come to pass, fans of the series have been chomping at the bit to have at it with the next mythic adventure in the Halo universe, Halo Wars. Up until this point, we were all led to believe that the RTS game was strictly for the Xbox 360 -- then came whispers from gaming site Angry Pixel that this just wasn't the case.  Quoting an inside source they claim to have at Microsoft:

"Halo Wars, touted as an Xbox 360 exclusive, is also apparently in development for the PC. But that's not all - apparently the game will also feature cross-platform play, a la UNO and Shadowrun, between gamers on the Microsoft console and their PC counterparts."

We get to the bottom of this -- or do we? -- after the jump.

Whether or not we had any doubts, it seemed reasonable enough at the time. Considering that RTS games and PCs are a match made in Heaven, it didn't exactly strike us as impossible. Consequently, IGN decided to contact the guys at MS themselves, and the illusion was soon dissolved (well, maybe not):

"Halo Wars is being developed from the bottom up for the Xbox 360 and its control scheme to ensure that we deliver a groundbreaking console RTS experience. Given that, we have no plans to develop 'Halo Wars' for Windows Vista at this time."

If you are the Matlocking type (plenty of those around here), you no doubt zeroed in on the words "at this time" as the door still being open on this one. Will Halo Wars find itself on the PC somewhere down the line? If consumers say it must be so, I bet it does. Games like Halo cost a mint to produce, and only a fool turns down money.

"At this time" pretty much confirms they'll make a PC version.

Nothing for Windows Vista... so perhaps for XP? OS X? Linux?

I hope they eventually release it for PC. The idea of an RTS on a console seems strange to me.

Even a Microsoft games studio can't penetrate Vista.

I agree with king3vbo and would like to add something. Halo Wars on 360 and Vista, confirmed.

Why else would he mention vista unless thats where they were thinking of porting it?

I'm was never really all that interested in this game, but I did think it would be for PC. Regardless, I'm annoyed.

Now, all the console fan fags will continue to spew the same crap that PC gaming is dead. Well, it's not and won't be killed anytime soon.

All those average Halo fans might be a little perplexed as to why they have to "think" now to play the next Halo.

Why did he say "Vista" instead of "Windows".

If i had to install vista, i'd just stick my PC into the microwave for 10 minutes.

@brainderailment: Wow sir, you are the epitome of wit. That was certainly a clever characterization of Halo gamers that has NEVER been made on d-toid ever.

I think it's cool that it's being designed for the 360 control scheme, but I'm fairly certain they'll release a buggy outdated version for windows later on, like Halo and Halo 2 (and probably Halo 3).

Damn Aksumka, calm down, no need to call us console fan fags.

Course I can call you a PC fag but I disgress, I'm sure you're having fun with your huge variety of titles like shooters and MMO's and shooters and RTS games and shooters and... uh, more shooters I guess.

PC won't die, it just sucks, this is an undisputable fact of life, try as you might, you can't argue against it.

And who cares about control? Everyone will be playing it with a controller anyway so no advantage or disadvantage.

And I agree with nutt though, Halo fans being generalized as morons who can't do anything but shoot, I have never seen someone say that before in D-Toid or otherwise.

Halo and the PC have never really got on anyway, sometimes it takes balls to end an abusive relationship.

Though I still imagine it will be released on PC, sorry, Games for Windows.

I think Halo will stay on the 360 permanently until the hype of the name alone stops selling games for the console.

This is an RTS... It belongs on the PC. I've yet to play an RTS that worked as well as any RTS on a PC... But I hate RTS games anyway so none of this really affects me lol

They'll just wait until they make ANOTHER shitty OS and then make it playable only on that. This will, of course, be after the sequel is already being played on consoles.

I'm going to hold off judgment on something I've yet to see. What I mean is, I'm not going to be an average gamer and say something negative about something new.

I will say that if there is a choice between PC and console I'll of course get the console version. You know, provided the game is any good.

Of course if it has anything to do with a good chunk of Halo lore I'll pick it up despite averageness.

They can keep Halo on the X360 imho.

I think the reason they aren't porting it now is because it'll get shat on by real games like Supreme Commander and Sins of a Solar Empire.
