Mickey remains silent in Epic Mickey plus sequel talk photo

Let's kick off the evening with a double shot of Epic Mickey news. First, a quote from designer Warren Spector from an interview with 1UP: "I don't do anything that isn't extensible. In my head, I've got two more planned."

Whoa whoa whoa. An Epic Mickey trilogy? But what about Duck Tales? "In the business world of reality, those games have not approved, and who knows if we'll ever see them." You had me there for a second, Spector. If the game stays true to the original vision, and plays decently, this could be a very good thing.

And before we get too far ahead of ourselves, The Cut Scene has an interesting tidbit about Mickey's dialogue in Epic Mickey. As Spector puts it, "I made the creative decision that characters wouldn’t talk in the Cartoon Wasteland."

"If I’m trying to re-introduce this character to an audience, there are certain connotations with that voice that I’m going to have a hard time overcoming." This was one of the few things that I couldn't stop thinking about when the game was announced.

Speech bubbles were the way to go for this project, if you ask me.

Yeah. It makes a lot of sense considering he wants to reinvent mickey by going back to the roots. And that voice wasn't at those roots.

Now if only some franchises thought about that for once...

Man this game is bouncing all over the place.

Mickey is mute? A trilogy? Jordan Grim Devore reminding everyone the game doesn't look like the header?

Geez. Can someone just leak some gameplay already so I can know what to do with my heart?

I was very curious as to the voices that would be used for the characters but as it stands my curiosity has been crushed. All is well though, what with all the money they're saving from classic voices, they can make more games!

But I do hope they use mumble tech.

Well this could be good at Adevent Rising and we all know that turned out.

I lost a lot of interest in this when I finally saw some screen shots of it.

Even though the game will still be amazing and I am firmly opposed to the "Why isn't this HD Steampunk American McGee's Mickey?" crowd, but that header man...
Imagine that on the PS3... Even a "gameplay over graphics" guy like myself can't help but wonder what that would be like. So awsome...

I think some honesty is in order here. The reason voices weren't included is with the way they are pushing the tech of the Wii with this gem, they most likely could not include substantial chunks of voice script. Probably wouldn't fit.

A wise decision, Spector. Personally, I feel that the best of Mickey can be found in all of his old films up to Fantasia's Sorcerer's apprentice where he doesn't talk.

Spector, please don't take the Peter Molyneux path to hype your game.In addition, it's hard for gamers to get excited about Epic Mickey when we haven't even seen a trailer. Also, the first batch of screen shots weren't impressive by any means. I'm still interested in the game's plot and concept though.

Shame the game itself doesn't even seem to resemble the concept art in any way shape or form. This one's a pass for me unless some gameplay footage does something complete unprecedented.

Does anyone even care at this point about this hidious looking game?

Um, you guys do know that the most recent Mickey actor died last summer, around the time he completed work for Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days? Right.

Disney might have not chosen his successor for the role yet.

Additionally, I find the storage space argument to always be asinine at best. Go look at some of your favorite games for PSOne on PSN - some of them never even came close to maxing the CD format.Same is true for DVD and Blu-Ray, might I add. Then you have DS and PSP games that can and do cram in a fair bit of voice acting.

Why does anyone even bother to resort to the storage argument?

@The Silent Protagonist, after reading that comment I kind of got the vibe that he was being sarcastic.....but it was hard to tell so I guess there may be some people who don't understand how storage space works still.... Oh well, we should be informative and caring, not making fun of his inferior knowledge.

You can check out some gameplay around the web I believe. I don't know where I saw it, but it exists. Looks very cool to me.

lol at storage space arguments.

I rather think losing the voices is a better design decision than a storage decision anyway. Regardless of the actualities behind it.
