I guess by now we shouldn't be surprised that Metal Gear Solid 4 looks this good but ... wow, does Metal Gear Solid 4 look good or what?

To say that this, along with a game like Final Fantasy XIII, is going to be a PlayStation 3 system seller is not an understatement. People like Metal Gear Solid and people like pretty graphics -- money in the bank.

It also helps that Kojima-san is likely going to be delivering a great game behind the gorgeous exterior. It's going to be awhile before we all get a chance to kick back with a bag of cheetos and a cold beer while playing the game in our homes; in the meantime, let's just ogle the pretty pictures, shall we?

Ooooh....sooo pretty.

Damn Sony.

I was determined ot lay off buying a PS3 for a good long while, preferably when another price cut had occured.

This game however is really, really tempting me over now though.

Damn Sony to hell.

FFXIII had better not amaze like i fear it will. I simply don't have the £425.

I can't see what the fuss is about personally. The textures look washed out slightly, though this being a lower resolution screenshot, things could improve. You're all far too easily impressed :P

Haha, in the first 3 pictures there are triforces on the wall. Just another clue that Nintendo is taking over the world.

After having watched the video presentation...does anyone else get the feeling that Kojima-san has lifted the control scheme from Splinter Cell? Yeah, its got some additions, but from what I can tell...this is MGS4:Splinter Cell

Justification for buying a PS3: Confirmed.

So, looking through those screenshots, my immediate thought was "that looks pretty good". Then I realised that this is Metal Gear and you'll likely spend 70% of the game watching cutscenes instead of playing anyway. That realisation killed a bit of my enthusiasm...

@Tempus,
I am kind of with you. I mean, it looks great, but nothing really spectacular.
Is it just me, or does Gears of War still look better?

That does look real nice, but I remember buying a PS2 for Metal Gear Solid 2 and having to sell the thing on once I finished it. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed for a 360 version, or wait until I'm a rich man big bucks smokin fat cigars. YEAH!

Looks good, not great, not by a long shot. If you go down the super HD realistic route, then reality will expose the weakness of human design. The PC is already surpassing PS3 in terms of graphics. Not that I care, but it's a lesson on why not to try and make a home console a PC.

I like the muted colours though.

None of it makes any odds to me, personally I don't like spending my time slowly sneaking up on, or hiding from the enemy, just let me go out there and go bezerk, I've more than got the mad skillz to dish it out.

Don't get me wrong, I still played Ico, Rez, GTA3, then got evrything else I wanted to play on my XBOX. Ended up buying one again for Guitar Hero though, then I got seduced by Okami.

i'm so glad i caved and finally bought a PS3 a week ago. from the screens & some of the gameplay footage,MGS4 looks as if it could be a game of the year candidate.
i may have to put myself into a self induced coma until the game is released.

Wow. It's just a short segment of gameplay footage, and Kojima's already managed to squeeze in two disparate cock-grabs? MGS4 will win the industry award for homosexual undertones/overtones.

It don't look bad none, though.

Graphically it looked pretty nice but to the same standard as some games now. Although I noticed it ran a lot smoother than some games at the moment. I didn't really notice any slowdown.
As for gameplay it looked like a lot more features and moves had been added. Looks like its turning out to be a pretty fun game.

I've said it once and I'll say it again:

It looks DETAILED, but the game lacks color. It makes the whole game look positively washed out, which I suppose is part of the point since it's a "battlefield". I just wish the battlefield looked a bit more colorful.

That said, I'm looking forward to seeing more and hearing some impressions from people who have actually played it.

I never actually enjoyed metal gear solid games. I could appreciate that they are incredibly well made, but I found it controlled incredibly poorly.

Added to that the fact that big guns and army guys don't reaaaally hold my interest for that long (which I assure you led to me being 'meh' about such great games as Gears of War too), MGS really isn't a system seller for me =).

Ninja Gaiden Sigma on the other hand (i never got around to finishing the original, and i've been meaning to)
