Now this is how you fight against video games!
There are no pansy-like court hearings or cry baby legislative tactics, no, this is a no-holds-barred "I'm gonna take yo sh*t" style of banning. According to Juarez, Mexico, newspaper El Diario, the governor of Chihuahua (not the adorable dog) -- where Juarez is located -- has declared that all copies of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 will be snatched up and not available for retail because of the town's negative presence in the game. Here is what the mayor had to say:
Violent video games instill values which are upside down, and these actions are despicable because they attempt to divide the good will of the residents of American and Mexican cities.
Damn you kids and your rock n' roll!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Stupid mexican politicians, that's why i don't vote :P
Um, yes please. Minus the corrupt cops.
Having said that. The situation in Juarez is awful for women specially. There have been literally hundreds of horrible murders towards women where they get raped, beaten, mutilated and then killed and dumped on streets. It's incredibly upsetting because you hear the polititians there and it's like nothing happens and if ever it must be women's fault for being careless. So instead of being pissed about some lame videogame they should be focusing on their real problems.
Ok, not that my rant is over i have to say that i love that picture so much, nikole, that if i weren't a big fat fairy/terrorist i would marry you.
GRAW2 wasn't developpend by Ubisoft Montreal. Get your facts straight! ;-)
Women in Juarez are not safe. I was the only male in a group of 12 women doing service and when walking in the city, they were harrased, groped and offered money for sex. I've never witnessed anything as terrible as what happened.
I even punched a guy in the face to get him to stop touching a woman's breasts. We then proceeded to run for the Border. Literally. Thankfully, we were close.
We can afford anything, well... almost, we can't afford PS3s =(
Difference is, this Mexican doesn't live in Mexico.
That's what you wanted to read, am I right? It was my yob to write it.
Yes, Mexico is full of imbeciles and it sucks.
USA is not exactly the opposite.
I'ts easier for the governor to just ban some games that portray a negative image, than to try tackling the problems.
And considering that many non-corrupt officials have been killed, its understandable. Still a pity.
Interesting, considering that Rainbow Six Vegas game starts off with your character going to mexico...Ubisoft sure likes Mexico
my peoples (nicaragua) can't even afford a SNES. I went to visit family once and I saw a game place that only had about 7 NES consoles. And the games were built in. Playing Super Mario Bros was fun though.
And why is Nicaragua relevant when we're talking about Mexico?
Anyway, xbox 360 is pretty much the only console you don't feel like getting ripoff buying it in Mexico. It sells for around $500 bucks for premium with PGR3, around $360 for core one. Wii sells for around $430 and PS3 over $1k
Wait, why is everythign so much more expensive in mexico again?
On the 360, pretty much all is taxes and some extra gain for the store/distributor, if you look around a bit you can find one at almost the same US price.
On the Wii i have no idea, i'm not sure if there are still official Nintendo stores, but considering that the official mexican Nintendo site is the "Club Nintendo" magazine one, i'm guessing that Nintendo isn't caring about Mexico.
On the PS3 side, i think it hasn't officially launched in Mexico, they have info about it on the mexican Sony site, but you can't buy it at the sony store. Anyway, the prices of the PS3 at some stores are crazy, they go anywhere from $800 to $1500, although i have to say they have been lowering prices because no one was buying them.
It would be a good idea not to talk about of stuff you don't know about.
Of the 3, Microsoft is the only one who can control the price of the 360 here in Mexico. Since Gamela (Nintendo's wholesaler on Latin America) went down and there's NO Sony of Latin America or whatever either, the price is left to the retailers to care about, so that just means they charge anything they want. Hence the 400 bucks for the Wii and 1000 on the PS3.
And the PS3 has been officially launched....since 2 months ago aprox.
where do I donate to build the wall?
