Lol, in all seriousness, I was never a huge fan of Metroid/Castlevania at that time, mainly because the story is uninspiring. Still, I love Super Metroid & Metroid Fusion, so I suppose I'll cop this.

As a hardcore Metroid fan I can say that I'm disappointed Nintendo hasn't even mentioned this, but I'm not going to make a big deal out of it, I hate it when people make a big deal out of nothing. I understand why Zelda & Mario got more attention because they're more popular, and they sell way more copies of games. Still at the very least Nintendo could have made a 25th anniversary site with wallpapers, and released Return of Samus on the eShop.
While I'm not surprised, it's still a goddamn shame. Metroid has always been, and probably will always be, my favorite Nintendo franchise. I just wish it would be treated with as much care as the Zelda or Mario franchise.

I'm arguably more of a Metroid fan than I am a Zelda fan (and that's saying a hell of a lot), but even I was all caught up in the Zelda side of things.
I love Metroid, and the Prime Trilogy disc is the single best gaming-related thing I've ever spent money on.

Can't say I'm surprised, much like others have stated. And I agree that more could be done about it, but anniversaries aren't that important to me. I'd rather see a new game announced/released than Nintendo hosting a party with a big cake.
I just wish we had a more concrete idea of what the future of the series is. We know where Zelda's headed, but Metroid's pretty in the dark. Maybe we'll see a big drought like we did before Fusion and Prime. For some reason, this is the Nintendo property with the least importance to them, it seems.

I don't mean to be anal, but Minako Hamano has done about half since and Yamamoto the other half (in fact, they collaborated on Super and Zero Mission, literally each doing about half of both OST's). Since the whole series is about how awesome one woman can be, let's give the woman who did significant work on the franchise's music some credit too.

@jingajin: Minako Hamano also wrote the music to Wario Land Shake It, that in itself give me tremendous respect for her, cause I LOVE that soundtrack. (Yes, I realize how nerdy it is to know all this obscure crap)

Yep, the 25th anniversaries for Zelda and Metroid are pretty awesome, but I think we're all in agreement that we should be celebrating the 10th anniversary of Pikmin with just as much enthusiasm.

To say Yamamoto-san did "everything since" would be an EXTREME overstatement.
Let's not forget about Ryoji Yoshitomi's brilliant ambient Metroid II soundtrack and Other M's amelodic score written by Kuniaki Haishima. Also, Akira Fujiwara helped score Fusion along with Hamano-san.

Like Ivan Causey said I'm having problems with the download also. Mines saying its downloaded (although the download is way way to short) but when I go to extract the files it says, in the case of using Winrar, that the file is corrupt, and in the case of the plain old windows extractor its saying theres no files to extract at all.
Hmm, I have it, maybe I can rehost for you guys when I get home. I strongly encourage everyone to check this out, even if you just stream them from the site. There's such a range of styles present here that everyone should be able to find something they like.
Metroid to me has always had that Boba Fett Pre-prequel mystery for me. In Zelda everything is spelled out, but since there is little dialog in Metroid, less is known and it's that much more mysterious and cool without explanation. Metroid is far more interesting to me than Zelda.

I agree with everyone who liked Other M. It, unfortunately, was the first Metroid game I've ever played. And it's good.
I'm not surprised in the least. I've always preferred Zelda and Zelda has definitely set more standards in gameplay than Metroid. Hell, Metroid didn't even make an appearance on N64 and it's Wii games were nothing special.
Still, I love the series and am happy at least something is being done to commemorate the 25th.

So disappointing to see Nintendo not giving even a mention to the series. It is by far my favorite nintendo franchise.
Either way, I celebrated by myself by downloading this cd and ordering some fanmade metroid prints. Fine by me!

Zelda's great and all, but Metroid is at least as good yet gets far less attention. Biggest disappointment of the DS was the lack of a 2D Metroid, especially seeing how great Fusion and Zero Mission were.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I think I am going to make a History of Metroid video this year to celebrate the anniversary. It will be a good way to keep my video editing skills up to snuff while I prepare for my culminating project for school.
Look everybody, the reason why Nintendo hasn't made a peep regarding the 25th anny of Metroid is because they have no new Metroid-related product to push. Zelda is getting all of the attention because conveniently for them, they have a new game to sell us very soon, and nostalgia is a powerful marketing tool. With no new Metroid game to sell, putting forth time/effort into giving the franchise attention would have little to no benefit for them. Cold hard truth.

Of course not. Did you not saw what Nintendo, and specifically Sakamoto, did to Metroid with Other M? It's no wonder they've tried to sweep to this under the rug, since making a 25th anniversary for it would draw attention they do not want.

While it's disappointing, Metroid, IMO, has never been on the same level as Mario and Zelda overall.
However, Super Metroid remains my #1 favorite game for a reason.

Regarding the zip files, I got them to work on the first try. The main problem was the fact that the servers seem to be bogged down and the download was VERY slow. Keep trying!
I downloaded the torrent version and it worked fine. This is an awesome album and I'm glad that the fans are filling in the gap that Nintendo has left. I just hope that Nintendo not celebrating Metroid's 25th anniversary officially is not a sign that they are putting the franchise on ice.
