News on Metroid: Other M has been pretty quiet since it was announced at last year's E3, but the silence is being broken today! We've just been told that the Team Ninja-developed action game is releasing in North America on June 27 of this year. Yep, you'll be stepping into Samus' armor this summer!
Nick Chester will be playing the game later today, so stay tuned for his demo impressions. Until then, get yourself all hyped up. This should be a brilliant game, and I'm definitely looking forward to hearing how it's shaping up.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And save some AAA games for Q4! You'll need some games to compete then too dammit!
I'm trying to catch my breath here. Next I'll here "Legend of Zelda: Goron's Remorse will release......TOMORROW!!!!1!!!"
But we'll see
I'll admit that I felt a surge of euphoria when I first glanced over the subtitled Zelda name in your post; for a second there I thought I'd missed a big announcement! I've had far too much nerd excitement for one day!
It doesn't feel right that it'll only have been one E3 by the time two of Nintendo's biggest games are released. Usually its announcement one year, demo next year, and launch six months later. Whatever it is they're doing up there to make these games come sooner, I like it!
ZELDA?
That's what I'm trying to figure out. If they were to announce a console Zelda and release it this year...it'd practically be like old times. I don't think the franchise can survive another Twilight Princess level of hype, which put expectations way too high.
But yeah, I'm fuckin' stoked.
VIDEO AND PICS!!
My sarcasm detector must be on the fritz.
And whatever happened to the hardcore Nintendo?! Where's my delays? Twilight Princess had at least 3 delays, and it was frigging CORREE.
Wow, how much more ignorant could this comment be? Has this guy ever played a single metroid game?
Saying Metroid Prime is a Halo Rip Off is like saying Halo is an 'Every single first person perspective game ever released before it' rip off. Seriously, there are aliens and there are guns. That's the entirety of the similarity in the two games.
Oh wait, of course! Metroid must have ripped off Halo and Ninja Gaiden so much that it actually created a rift in the time-space continuum, where it altered 1980's history. Hoooow sinister.
Definitely looking forward to this one
@birthmark destructor
metroid predates both halo AND ninja gaiden, so your comment really isn't that insightful, sorry.
@hel105
you're right, if you don't own a wii yet, you really couldn't pick a better time to buy. just make sure that you pick up some of those fantastic games that came out in the last year or so.
"I mashed for about five minutes. Then I realised the game was actually uncontrollable ,see. I can't recommend it to anyone"
You fucking unco (uncoordinated). Learn how to play AvP
Considering the references to the final boss fight of Super Metroid, a look at what appears to be a younger Samus, and the brief glimpse of Adam Malchovich in the trailer, I'd guess it will be between Super Metroid and Fusion, maybe with some flashbacks to Samus's life before the events of the original Metroid.
The end all / be all of game design isn't the first person shooter. Everyone likes different kinds of games. While you might have a hard on for American-Made games (which, btw, Metroid Prime was made in Austin) there are a lot of us who have been playing games since the 80's or earlier. If you let go of your prejudice against older mediums or Japanese companies, you might find out that Metroid and the like have been around for decades for a very good reason.
Wow kid, how old are you, like 12? Or are you just really that stupid?
sidescrolling does not equal 2d. I can think of a tone of great SNES games that weren't sidescrollers (Final Fantasy, Starfox, Mario Kart, F-Zero, Civilization, Super Punch Out!!, SimCity...)
And also, don't diss it if you've never played it (and it's clear you have neve rplayed a Metroid title). Have you read Ringworld? Read it, and then try to tell me that Halo was original.
Oh I shall. I'm polling my friends right now to see which 2 or 3 games I should buy to start. I'm leaning towards Silent Hill, Fire Emblem, and Super Mario Galaxy. With maybe a cheap used copy of RE4, if I feel like having a third version (I will).
Why is it that any time someone mentions anything that deals with Nintendo, you have to bring up stuff like Halo. No one was talking about it in this thread until you brought it up. Also, you say Metroid stole from Halo, but then you say the Metroid no longer belongs to Metroid because the flood is better. Freaking troll...
