Metroid: Other M and Sin & Punishment see delays photo

Feel free to cancel those June poop-socking plans, Nintendo fans. The publisher has announced that two key June releases have been pushed back. The Treasure-developed rail shooter Sin & Punishment: Star Successor is now slated for release on June 27th instead of its original early June date. Team Ninja's Metroid: Other M is now months outside of its original slated release. Expect it August 31st release as opposed to June 27th -- S&P's new date.

It takes a lot of voodoo juice and money to hand out tissues via the Internet, so you'll have to excuse us for not helping you in this time of great need. If it's any help, we (including even the mighty Aaron Linde) know how you feel. There, there.

I thought the Other M release date was too good to be true...

I am actually glad metroid got delayed. Now I can afford to get super Mario galaxy 2, deathsmiles, and metroid. Heck, I may even be able to get 3d dot game heros!!

At least they're not pushing it back six months.
I think it might be time to get a Wii.

Said as it is that I am not playing them sooner, I agree with @SR388... There are going to be games that are coming out this summer that I want to play (and some ones that I want to catch up with).

And let's be honest, if you buy to own (as opposed to buy to trade) games, like I do, there are only so many games you are buying at any given time. There are awesome games I wanted to get, but I just never got around to it because I bought other things and were playing them. Pushing this off to late summer means that I am more than likely picking them both up when they come out (since there is less competition).

Also, if a game needs to be delayed to make it *right* (particularly with a Wii game, since there isn't the same patching available), I am all for it. There were brilliant games that were rushed and wound up being less than brilliant.

@Ryan J Gago: I would recommend it. It's cheap; all but first party games over a year or two old can be had for a song and a dance; Virtual Console is awesome; there are some fantastic games (amidst a bloated shovelware/kiddie/movie-tie-in catalog).

Yeah, I'm not surprised. I don't think Nintendo would want to release 2 of its biggest franchises so close together. Hopefully this gives the game time to polish it out and make sure it works right.

Does this affect the European release dates or are we actually getting a game before America.

I didn't even know Sin and Punishment 2 was coming out in America. I am behind the curve, but that makes this news not disappointing!

I'm glad Metroid was delayed, because it has a better chance of me purchasing it in late August than in late June, when my wallet will have been hit by things.

this sucks. when metroid doesn't sell well in august because its up against AAA 360 and PS3 titles everyone is going to bitch that hardcore games dont sell on the wii.

Good, maybe the game will be better from a two month delay.

Sorry, but from what I've seen of this game, I'm not running out to buy it. It'll be a solid rental for sure, but nothing more.

And this is coming from a Metroid fan.

Virtual console is awesome, if you don't know about emulators or how to use them. Just sayin'.

Hopefully this gives S&P 2 a chance to grab a little attention. The game is pretty awesome, like a super-long 2D shmup with integrated sword fighting and Panzer Dragoon-ness mixed in at a constant pace.

Ah no biggy. It just give Nintendo a better summer line-up, instead of having three big games all come out in a one month period. Its better to spread the love over more time anyway!

Hoping this is because some sane person at Nintendo took a hard long look at Other M and decided it needs to be something other than d pad controlled pandering trash.

@DustyBlue: I used to emulate console games when I was in high school, but now over 10 years later, unless its something that is impossible to get (Japanese arcade PCBs or exceedingly rare NES stuff), it really kind of dirty, if I can just buy it. I can afford $5-$10 for a downloadable game I must have. Honestly, (for NES and Genesis) I find the cart. I really don't like playing on my keyboard and the convenience of being about to play on my couch without looking at a laptop screen (and playing 2 player), it's worth having the real deal or a cheap download (and I the virtual console is making money, so many others must be thinking the same).

@mrfrostynova: You, of course, are referring to the Awesome Pants of Holy Awesomeness, right? If it's like the original one (but with a more sensible control mapping), it will make a lot of people very happy. Not everyone's bag, but like Muramasa, Castle Shikagami 3, or No More Heroes, its both a different type of game than the mainstream, yet really hardcore and (according to what as been said re: the Japanese release) really good.

I don't quite see why there's enthusiasm for Metroid in the first place, as the description made it sound pretty quirky and uninteresting. It's a 2D platformer which changes the perspective to first person to shoot, correct? Now, having played both types of games, I can't imagine enjoying this combo. It sounds like it requires the player to learn two sets of controls and rapidly flip between them. If they fix that with the time, Metroid, other M would be more interesting IMO.

GOOD. For fuck's sake, I don't have time to play all of these games, much less the money to buy three full-priced titles every month or so.

But also BAD, because now the entire summer is basically covered in games I need to play, so I can't now get them all out of the way at once.

I bet it'll be delayed again, as we get closer to August, so they can position it into a more strategic release date.
