Didn't get enough of shooting mutated rats and Russian Nazis? THQ has confirmed that Metro 2033 is getting a sequel, appropriately named Metro 2034. I'm guessing that's a working title. [Edit: Been informed the novel got a sequel called Metro 2034, so it is probably not a working name. Thanks readers!]
Details on the game are scarce, but we do know that it'll follow in the footsteps of the first game by hopping aboard the 3D bandwagon. It will be one of four games that THQ is using to experiment with 3D technology, the original game being the first.
"We're showing Metro 2033 in 3D right now, which Nvidia is showing as one of their key demo products," says core games VP Danny Bilson. "We're going to be doing a 3D version of that on Metro 2034 -- the sequel. And there will be some engineering costs there, but that's in our lowest cost centre in the world. Those games are unbelievably reasonable, they're built in Kiev."
Metro 2033 was a game full of great ideas, but I really hated the execution. I hope Metro 2034 brings a more refined experience, or at least a game where all the enemies aren't Al Pacino at the end of Scarface.
Metro 2034 coming, in 3D [CVG]

So I can't wait for the sequel!
2033 was pretty enjoyable, amazingly linear but still good so I'm quite looking forward to a sequel.
Also, i liked Metro 2033 and im happy to hear its getting a sequel.
Now they just need to port STALKER and i'll be happy.
If they can tighten up the shooting a bit (and add more stealth - can't have too much of that), this should be something to keep an eye on.
Not relevant, but I found your 80's photos Jim.
It sounds like you've already decided that you despised the game, so I won't bother trying to change your mind.
peace.
I thought it's cool. Part Doom, part Half-Life2, part No one lives forever. Never reaches the same level as their inspiration but it is a fine effort with a good result (for me at least).
It brought a lot of cool ideas to the table, the pre war ammo being stronger but also used as currency, the weapons (pump sniper rifle, different mods on different weapons), the journal/lighter to find your objectives, the gas mask with filters that needed changing or it would fog up, there was a lot of stuff in that game that aren't in other shooters. Not to mention the atmosphere was absolutely top notch.
Other than that, the atmosphere, story (except the shitty ending), etc., were both high points. And hell, I even dug the shooting. The guns felt old and shitty, which is what I expect from the wasteland. I actually didn't have a problem with the mechanics. I aim, shoot, and kill. I guess I don't know how uber gun handling is since I don't fuck with shit like Call of Duty and all that jazz.
$50 for all that? DAMN, SON! Gotta love DD through Steam. I wish PSN and XBL could get as awesome with insane sales.
At no point did Jim said he hated the game. It was indeed a game with great ideas, but some wonky execution. But it was still a great game that people should try.
