Metro 2033's platform status was quite confusing when the game was first announced. One moment it was coming to the PS3, then it wasn't, then nobody knew if up meant down and down meant up. Eventually, we all learned that Metro 2033 would be for Xbox 360 and PC only. Why not PS3? Apparently, it's just business.
"That’s probably more of a business decision, and one that I wasn’t part of when I was at THQ," says producer Hew Beynon, trying to avoid the pitchforks. The studio architect of the 4A engine did a lot of the initial work on the PS3 first, just to get to grips with the architecture. A lot of the early prototypes you saw were of the PC version … You’d probably have to ask someone up in senior THQ finance to find out why we didn’t greenlight a PS3 version at the time, but there’s no reason why the engine wouldn’t work on PS3."
It is at this moment that PS3 fans can step in and say "Meh, doesn't look like we're missing much." Of course, if Metro 2033 were a PS3 exclusive, those exact same people would be hailing it as the second coming. You know it's true.
Lack of Metro 2033 for PS3 was a "business decision", says THQ [VG247]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Although I have a 360 as well, so I COULD buy it, but I really don't think it looks worth it. It seems so....generic and grey...
Now, STALKER was a great game, but they reaaaally can't code well. Model topology and diffusemapping is very poor too. Hence why it's best you play a modded STALKER first runthrough to fix all the bugs.
To be honest I think a PS3 port would be far too large a strain on the coders to be worth the extra dev time.
See Mildpooptastic.
Who am i kidding, you lucky 360 and PC users. At least we got Haze, right? RIGHT?!
I may still get it for my 360 if the reviews are good but so far I am not hyped for this.
I cannot believe my PC is below the minimum requirements for this game though, I was just running mass effect at max with no slowdowns at all.
But "business" stinks of ms dollars.
People who moan about generic grey/brown shooters.
Seriously. A lot more boring.
And don't forget the "I didn't care before" and "Microsoft totally paid these guys off" arguments.
Those Sony fans, they are the worst.
"those exact same people would be hailing it as the second coming. You know it's true."
Way to keep perpetuating the stereotypical fanboy that you claim to hate so much. The only thing worse then fanboys are the people constantly whining about fanboys. Such a stupid mindset to have.
STERLING IS A FAGGOT
Those Sony fans, they are the worst."
Did you ever stop to think that maybe they really don't care?
You're not allowed to not care about a game and you're not allowed to care about a game too much... else.. you'll be labeled a fanboy.
You know what Perfidious Sinn? You're the worst.
Sure, I know there are people like that, but the insult seemed far too broad to be justified. Really, it just sounded like flamebaiting, which is kind of disappointing.
As for the situation itself, I think it sucks for gaming in general when something like this happens. Honestly, though, it's not like we're talking about a Mass Effect 2 level game, so I think it's a pretty valid response for someone to say that they are only moderately disappointed, and will easily get over it. There ARE a lot of great games coming out this year, so not dwelling on it shouldn't be too hard.
You have been on the internet before, right?
Sure, it's slightly antagonistic, but there's no smoke without fire, and what Jim said isn't exactly innaccurate even if it is flamebait.
Totally reminds me of those "writers" who deliberately try to be controversial to get readership.
Really? Because.. what he said was an opinion. There was no fact there, so.. how could it be accurate or inaccurate? It was just a stereotype. Nothing more.
Xbox users eat more blueberry pie then PS3 users. Who knows if I'm actually right or not? No studies have been published, but since you can't prove me wrong.. I'm not inaccurate.
Now you're just being silly. You mean to tell me you've never come across what Jim's insinuating at all? I just can't believe you. Sorry. It happens here, and on pretty much every story on every website that involves the word Xbox, or PS3.
I salute you for missing it - you are a lucky person, but it's there. It really fucking is.
There are always reasons for the existence of stereotyping.
Shut the fuck up. We could go on this vicious cycle; I could say 'you're the worst one, calling out fanboys, you elitist prick' and then you say 'oh, no, you're the worst one, for calling out the fanboy hater, you elitist prick' and so on and so forth.
Let's just all shut the fuck up and play some goddamn video games. And masturbate.
Love the flamebaiting, but (and keep in mind that I personally was actually interested in this game for PS3) I really don't think PS3 fans would be hailing this as the second coming. They would probably still say "Meh" ...or whatever their opinion of it actually happens to be... I love how people can legitimately have that opinion and not be fanboys at all, but Jim Sterling and internet douchticles will label them as "stupid fanboys" anyway.
Also, this doesn't seem like a big enough game that Microsoft would pay to have exclusivity on, but you all do know that Microsoft does do that, right? Not that it's just them, but still. Sure, a fanboy will bust out the "Microsoft paid 'em off" stuff, but so would a normal rational person... 'cause that's just what happens.
But Jim, here's an idea. Why don't you do more reporting, which may be an entirely new concept to you, and less being a cockhole throwing around cockhole opinions and stereotypes trying to start flamewars so you can feel special. Jim Sterling: The Eric Bitchoff of the video game industry. Controversy creates crap.
GTFO! Us people who use common sense and logic instead of bias and blind loyalty have no place in this cesspool of filth and fanboyism! How dare you!
I'm sort of glad it's not coming to PS3. I've got too many good games to play on it and I need a reason to turn my 360 on every once in a while to make sure it still works.
Actually, fuck everyone else---YOU guys are the worse. Claiming fanboyism sucks, yet your whole post reeks of it! Fucking hypocrites and fanboys all rolled into one. The scum of the gaming webosphere.
