Metro 2033 does full Russian voice, if you want photo

4A Games' take on the whole post-apocalyptic setting, Metro 2033, will offer something we don't necessarily see very often: a Russian voice option, complete with subtitles for "maximum Russian-ness."

Seeing as how most videogames by default have the sound effects turned up to the point where you can't hear what's being said nine times out of ten, I always opt for subtitles when given the chance.

With Metro 2033, Russian dialogue will likely be the way to go, so the choice is even easier to make. How do you game? Full on English all the way, or spoken foreign languages, when the option is there?

Don't know, I prefer full on English with some regional accents. If they have subtitles for other languages, that would be great. Unlike some other games where there are no subtitles to translate for you, like Punch Out Wii.

I was thinking about this the other day actually... if it's set in a foreign country, I'd prefer it if they spoke that language. Like playing Assassin's Creed 2 in Italian.

I hate the fact that nowadays most games (and movies or tv series) are dubbed. And even if the game is made by a company from US or UK, they fit English into everything - including conversations between non-English characters. Anooying as hell to play a game set in some remote country and hear the locals conversing between themselves in English with an accent - why the fuck would they do that?

I think, if I get the game, I'll play it first with Russian voice and English subtitles and second with English voice.

I'm all for authenticity. Listening to other dialects is rich and fulfilling. I hope it encourages more people to learn other languages and take an interest in alien cultures. I hope that this option isn't overlooked and that it's seen as a positive step. Dubbing is rarely a good thing and is never well done.

I agree with SedeoInedus. Stop making Americans dumber with dubs.

It's an obvious question, you play with russian voices ofc, it makes no sense for russian people to speak english. The only reason I can see for them to speak english would be if big parts of the metro civilization were non-russian, and required english for communication, but thats hardly the case :p

Besides... this game is all about the atmosphere, it's a good thing they're doing everything they can to keep it the way the book intended it to be :)

For authenticity purposes, I'd go full Russian with subtitles. The game DOES take place in Moscow, ya know.

Fake Russian accents make me throw up.

Problem with subtitles is that you spend more effort in reading the words, which could get tiresome, and playing while at the same time reading the subtitles can be difficult, while it'd be more relaxing and comfortable just hearing a language you can understand.

As long as the subtitles aren't pain in the as small for HD purposes I'd totally go maximum Russian.

I actually find the Russian to language to be my favorite. It's pretty hot.

A full Russian voice option? Cool. But, uh, how are they going to manage to cram all of this onto DVDs without the quality being ass.

2 DVDs then for the 360? And again, damn them for taking back the PS3 version, though we can always hope for a PS3 port in the future.

@ Xzyliac

What's been done a 100 million time before?

Porting to the PS3? Or extra voice options?

Enlighten me on the games that provide multiple language options. I can think of some, but very few and those being mostly PS2/Xbox games [Dynasty Warriros, etc] in which textures, meshes weren't taking up a ton of space on the discs yet. I recall FFXII having awful voice compression on the PS2 and that using DVDs, so excuse me for being a little skeptical on having another voice track on a game and worrying about quality. That and 2 discs makes the players actual freedom within the game limiting.

I'd say something critical about feeling like being forced down tunnels, but seeing as this game is taking place in subways, well, I guess they're excused.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory comes to mind.

On a DVD-9 I'm 99.9% sure they can compress two audio tracks. It's not an issue at all. An even if it were it's a small thing to make it an optional download. It's not that big of a deal at all.

Hated that about Mercs 2. Everyone In Velenzuela spike English. It was annoying. In the original game the background characters spoke mostly Korean. Or at least something that sounded enough like it to make is not stand out.

I like that! My biggest complaint about The Saboteur was it's minimal foreign language and it's terrible accents.

Metro 2033 wasn't something I was terribly interested in, but I'm glad to see them paying attention to details.

This is really cool. I've always wanted to play a foreign game and actually play it using the voices/content the developer originally intended.

Kind of like watching a forign film with subtitles. It feels less forced and more authentic that way.

Nothing wrong with a fake Russian accent."Compare the Meerkat.com, simples" or "I must break you".

Not having english as mother language myself, I'm way to used to subtitles, its more like second nature after all these years.
As some other user are saying, its kinda weird to me to see a movie or game with non-enlgish-speaking characters that either speak perfect english or some weird accent all the time.

And besides, playing a game with a language you don't know, even with subtitles, is a great way of learning some words and expressions here and there.

Metro 2033 is shaping to be a great game :)

I wonder what that quad headshot would look like from the other team's perspective, when four guys' heads all burst into chunky salsa and then all fall down like a row of dominoes. I would've crapped myself honestly.
