Metro 2033 dev focused on story, skipping multiplayer photo

Much to my delight, we've seen a lot of games in recent times delve into the subject matter of life in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. What we haven't really seen, however, is such a theme taking place in Russia.

Enough with the same old "everything blew up, so therefore everything looks utterly brown" scenario for just a minute, guys. 4A Games upcoming PC and Xbox 360 title Metro 2033 has mutated beings and a world covered in snow (trailer here). Let's see you top that.

It's too early to tell how Metro 2033's gun play will handle, but as far as multiplayer is concerned, there won't be any. Taking the Fallout 3 approach rather than the Borderlands mindset, the studio will be "100% focused on single-player, which will be a pretty long experience."

Interesting. I feel like there are too many games trying to do multiplayer right now, so this is a plus in my book. Assuming, of course, that Metro 2033 is a worthwhile videogame. So far, it's certainly looks as if it's shaping up to be one.

Sounds really cool, I'll have to keep tabs on this.

Good. Too many great single player games have tacked on multiplayer that no one bothers with after a month(I'm guessing Bioshock 2, Dead Rising 2 and many other single player sequels will suffer the same fate). Most single player games just don't need, nor are they designed for, multiplayer.

>.> Can we at least get 2 player coop? Few games have this kind of concept and going through with a buddy might be fun.

An actual single player experience? No multiplayer? No Co-op

My god the Russians have redeemed themselves.

I'm loving the fact that post-apocalyptic fiction is becoming so popular. It's been my favorite setting/sub-genre for years now, so it's nice to see a little revival. Anyway I'm very interested in how this is going to turn out, even though I have a feeling it'll end up as a bland, moderately interesting shooter.

If anyone is interested in a good 80's Russian post-apocalyptic film, search for Dead Man's Letters (or Letter's from a Dead Man, it could be either or). You'll probably have to download it. It's relentlessly bleak, and rather claustrophobic. I highly recommend it.

A single player game not by BioWare or Bethesda! I'm all formore solo action w/o tacked on multiplayer. Although I don't mind the emergence of co-op in many games, the multiplayer just for the f of it is getting tired.

@Marktime - I tend to agree. There's something inherently humanizing about any exploration of morality in the absence of the society that our morals enforce.

Solo focus? Yes please. If it adds co-op, I'm all for that as well as the singleplayer is still a 'full' game.

Saint's Row 2 got it so right, why do so few others?

HELL YEAH!!
We need to stop overrating MP, let the devs focus on the SP. I still think BioShock 2 having MP is a blasphemy.

Good to see something new too. I think russia is a great setting for games, and it's nice to see a hero from another country than the usual settings we might see. This is looking good.

Good. Without tacked-on multiplayer, we might get another BioShock-type experience (Key word: might). Although I wouldn't mind a straight-up co-op mode, but if that detracts at all from the single player, then forget about it. It's good to see someone take a stand and give multiplayer the middle finger every once in a while.

What do you mean post-apocalyptic themed games don't take place in Russia haven't there been a number of them, made by Russian developers. It's like a theme there. Hell isn't everyday life there post-apocalyptic?

Considering the story doesn't seem to be all that original, perhaps they should quickly get to programming some multiplayer back in. Smashing together Fallout and that cold weather game that just went to Platinum Hits is not a formula for success.

Good. I'm honestly getting sick of multiplayer crap shoved into a game to make it more accessible, or whatever their reasoning is. Even Borderlands, a game I love to death, I've been playing mainly in single player. Strong single player experiences are hard to come by these days.
