Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil coming to PSN? photo

FINALLY! After years of waiting, some true PSOne Classics are coming to the PSN's PSOne Classics store. The ESRB has done what the ESRB does best and leaked details of five PSX games headed to the PS3's online service, chief among them being Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil: Director's Cut.

Spec Ops: Covert Assault, Spec Ops: Ranger Elite and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six have also been rated and all look to be hitting the PSN. It would appear as if SCEA is finally getting up off its arse and bringing some serious heavy metal to the PSOne Classics section, which still remains one of my favorite elements of the PS3.

Great news for PlayStation fans. MGS and RE are arguably among the very best the PSX had to offer. Now we just need the Final Fantasy titles and the Oddworld games to seal the deal.

Between Metal gear and Rock Band Unplugged, I may have to pony up for a PSP after all.

Ho-ly-fuck.....

I never thought I'd see the day. Sony, ESRB, thank you. I have just "jizzed-in-my-pants!"

I think God himself will descend from heaven now.

Bring Parasite Eve to the PSN!

Or better yet remake it. Imagine how scary they could make the game nowadays.

It grinds my gears that the Japanese store has had RE 1-3 just sitting there for quite some time now. Sometimes I log in just to look at them.

My PS2 is broken and my copies of the early Resi games are worn out anyway - now I have a reason to buy a PS3.

... These better damn well come out on the European PSN or whatever.

@Ace:

And that is why my friend, you make an American or Japanese account if it doesn't.

Now I wonder what they'll change the codec for Meryl to since you won't have a CD case. I hated that stupid puzzle since I had rented it back in the day.

@ DrWiley: Wut?!? I thought that part was brilliant man!!

Luckily I still have my black label PS1 copy I bought in '98 =D
It had a great manual too IMO.

On topic, this is great but they really need to put out a lot more. The US PS1 store is mostly pathetic, European stores seem a little better and of course Japan's is just ridiculous. Nationalist Japanese assholes! ;)

@Blasto: That part was great. However, since I had a rental or was given a copy without the case I was stumped for hours upon hours. I can proudly say that I now own my own complete copy.

Man I still know Meryls codec I believe it was [spoiler] 141.15[spoiler] Ocourse I could be wrong...

I recently found a lost box full of playstation games in a closet including MGS,FFVII,RE2,Tekken 3 and the original tomb raider games...For a second there I left earth and felt like going to heaven.

Gonna replay em all during the summer finishing with MGS then I'm gonna follow up all the way to MGS4.

I've got a black-label PS1 MGS, but if I can transfer it to the PSP with a digital release, I'd buy it again.

The PS version of MGS is arguably one of the greatest games in the series. I strongly recommend everyone playing it if they haven't.

I actually prefer the pixelized graphics of this version to the very sterile looking GC remake, as well as the more grounded and realistic cutscenes. The only improvement to be found in Twin Snakes is the cutscenes involving Cyborg Ninja.

I've already bought MGS twice. I think I'd be more interested in some classic PSX RPGs that I never got to play like Suikoden or Alundra.

@Los255: God YES. My copy of LoD got worn through years ago, I would pay a premium for an everlasting downloadable version.

Same goes for Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve + PE2, Dino Crisis 1 + 2.
