In the past few days Hideo Kojima has been tweeting about a 10 part series of commercials he will be releasing for Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker. He was concerned that he wouldn't be able to show off the game correctly and that the PSP's limited graphical powers (compared to a console) would turn people away. On Friday the first ad popped up on Kojima Production's blog. If you check it out above I would say they did a pretty good job. Who knows what it says, but it sure looks good.

That's not the end of the story, however. It turns out that this ad was not supposed to go up yet, and Kojima is none to happy at his PR team that it did. He went back to tweet that he was plenty angry about the video getting out, saying, "Jiro (Kojipro PR) did it again. PW's 'teaser commercial' was getting around the net and I was in dismay. I looked for the origin and it ended up originating from our Kojipro blog. Jiro, are you out of your mind! I never gave you permission to upload this!"

Damn you, Jiro! Damn you to hell!

I'm excited for this game. The commercial wasn't much, though.

The graphics aren't what turn me away from the PSP offerings, it's the controls. There seems to be no way to make a Metal Gear game control well on the PSP without turning it into a Metal Gear Acid. The game just needs a second stick, especally for fans who have pretty much been used to having one forever.

I'll most likely pick this up anyway, so I can be one step closer to owning all the Metal Gear games. I'll play it too, but I just can't help but wish this were on PS3.

Damn short Japanese ads, I wanted to see more! This is one of my most anticipated games of the year and it finally made me get a PSP.

I find it odd he's so concerned about graphics when the best selling console in Japan is the Nintendo DS.

Personally, I'm very much a "good enough" person. Once the Playstation 2 came along, the graphics were good enough that I could ignore them, and all graphical improvement would be wasted on me. Likewise, anything less than that and I can not ignore them, and the game becomes hard to play. I wonder what that thresh-hold is if you are a developer, because this game looks "good enough" for me.

don't fret kojima, the ad does exactly what it's supposed to do. Make me want the game MOAR!

...And that revealed absolutely nothing. I think the commercial before the actual video was longer. :/

You didn't recognize the figure that looks an awful lot like Ray from this angle, or the Big Shell lookalike?

did u play the demo for Peace Walker? I thought they nailed the controls compared to Portable Ops. That game's controls frustrated me to the point of quitting.
I agree with you in that a second stick is almost necessary.

@Grandmas Boy

Yes, I played PW and PO, both of them have terrible controls. Everything is so inaccurate, from movement to shooting, it just really killed the experience for me. I'll agree they are better, but they are far from good.

now if they could make the controls as great as the teaser, THEN maybe i'd buy it. until then i'm gonna download the demo one more time then probably delete it when i realize the controls are still just as bad

Really? I didn't think anyone was really looking forward to rising with it being a blatant cash in and had nothing to even do with Kojima. He made it a point he had nothing to do with it.

@Renegade Panda

I have a PSP but I'm not used to it... Can you play PSP games with a PS3 controller? Or port games from the PSP to the '3? Thought I heard something about it a while ago but I wasn't playing attention.

crap. now I have to buy a psp and component cable just to play this stupid thing. I guess this was the only way he could get away with making a ps2-fidelity game, without actually releasing it on the ps2. its a shame that a stigma develops like that, hideo kojima shouldn't have to spend 5 years and 50 million dollars everytime he wants to crank out a game, its unfair to everyone.

in all honesty I'm not really a fan of the hand held gaming but if there were one series I'd get a PSP for it'd be this.

Hang on a sec - did the narrator just say "piss walker"?
Mr Pibb's Avatar - Comment posted on 03/08/2010 08:14

@ burnblaze: Nah, he said Pisuuoka. It's hard to explain but it's to do with Peace Walker being converted into kana for Japanese to read/pronounce it then when we convert that back into romaji it's Pisuuoka.

@ x1251: I got an A on my first playthrough of the Peace Walker demo. I probably shouldn't have played the demo before I played Portable Ops as I'm kind of forcing myself through that right now. But really, anyone who's wary of Peace Walker's controls has no reason to be and they're very customizable. Peace Walker is godly.

Oh wow, Kojima's so "mad", lame pretend ad jargon. it'd be funnier if he went into a porto potty and Suda 51 was there dumping and Kojima explained that he was there to leak because mr. snake pisses to "save" in "piss walker", huh huh.

Silly japanese and their ancient chinese secret trailer leaks, tee hee.
