Kojima Productions just tweeted some footage from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker's first mission, titled "For Starters: A Solo Sneaking Mission," and you can watch it embedded after the cut.
And indeed, the toys at Naked Snake's disposal for this PSP-based outing are impressive, ranging from the familiar tranquilizer darts and chaff grenades to more intriguing gadgets like an invisibility blanket, inflatable dummies, and the Fulton Recovery Device, a balloon that can be attached to a fallen comrades (or potential recruits)to whisk them to safety.
Visually the game is looking great, and sports a minimalist, vertically-oriented HUD. Some of the actions that were added with Metal Gear Solid 4 also seem to be present.
The real highlight of the footage is when Snake enacts the Metal Gear equivalent of a CARE package kill. That alone makes it worth playing.
That was beautiful. And those new gadgets are hilariously cool. Especially the Stealth Mat. If the Fulton Device is the new way to recruit people, then I am twice as excited. It was a pain in the ass recruiting people in Metal Gear: Portable Ops and this is a godsend if that's how he recruits people. Although, it did seem a bit silly, and funny, that he got to send someone up to the helicopter while he was underground.
Ay dios mio! That looked amazing. I'm going to have to get yet ANOTHER PSP. This will be my third one, and from the looks of it, so worth it. Kojima, ya tienes mi dinero, genio maldito...
Of course, I know this will be good, I've never really been disappointed with a Metal Gear game. Hell, I even liked Acid. I just wish the PSP controls were a little more third-person friendly.
@RenagadePanda: The demo had quite a few options for the control presets. There was even a secret "Hunter Mode" which had them set up like Monster Hunter controls. It felt surprisingly fluid for a 3rd Person PSP game; probably the smoothest I've ever seen.
I'm really gonna have to sit down and write up an article about MGS trailers as a whole in terms of composition.
Because I have never watched a trailer from any other game, or series of games, that makes me foam at the mouth with the desire to play. And this happens with every single damn one.
I agree. I'd pay as much as $100 for a PS2/PS3/PSN version of this game. I don't have any reason to buy a PSP other than this game and I know that if I do buy a PSP specifically for it, I'd beat the game and then sell the PSP. Seems like such a waste when they could probably very easily port it over (think GTA Liberty City Stories/Vice City Stories) and allow a whole set of gamers play the game who have been long time console loyalists but have no interest in handhelds.

I agree. I remember when Snake Eater started pouring out trailers. My head exploded more times than I can imagine.
This is lookin pretty goddamned awesome, and it's lookin like my old PSP is gonna get a lot more use. In fact, I might just go play Portable Ops right now.
what a strange game... I still can't place it. it seems to borrow from mgs3 and mgs4, primarily. the ps3 really needs a PSP emulator you can buy for it.
Love it. I'm playing through MGS3 and I'm loving it again. I swore that I wouldn't buy a PSP just to play Peacewalker, that promise is looking a bit shaky now.
For those crying about handheld versions of games...
Last three and the Shin Megami Tensei game - all handheld
Next Valkyria Chronicles game - handheld
Last and next Kingdom Hearts game - handheld
Last two zelda games - handheld
Last three Mario RPGs - two were handheld.
Only good Castlevania games anymore - on handhelds.
Last three Phantasy Star games - handheld
Metal Gear Solid handheld game so far - four on PSP.
So why don't you just get a fucking DS and PSP already?

"No way! DS and PSP have no games!"
Monster Hunter Series
Chilli Con Carnage
God of War - Chains of Olympus
GTA LCS/Chinatown wars
+1
This will bring out a whole new love for it!
