Metal Gear Solid available on PSN today photo

Perhaps you’ve heard of this game: Metal Gear Solid? Konami released it on PlayStation in 1998. Some people liked it or something.

Well now, you can download it from the PlayStation Network for play on your PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable. That’ll cost you $9.99, and it’s available today.

I wish there were more to say, but what hasn’t already been said about “Hideo Kojima’s groundbreaking original that created the tactical-espionage action genre.” Hey, Konami said that, not me.

@Always Ten Feet Tall
Switch the controller # on the PS button menu

I know it makes me a whore, but I'll gladly pay $10 to play this on my PSP >.<

It's the same for every game, but I'm sure they've stuck it in the ingame manual somewhere like they did with Startropics on the NES

@Ezra: as much as I love the concept of Twin Snakes (especially the marriage of gameplay from MGS2 and story/characters from MGS1), they butchered the accents and made the cinematics so over the top that they actually detracted from the awesomeness of the original.

That being said, I still have the original discs sitting here, so no need to download (for now).

This is so tempting, but I have the original game sitting on my shelf right now. At the same time, I do love every second of it, and I would have it for my PSP...

Jim Sterling's excitement over this game is the reason we don't get creative new ideas from developers. This is a game he likely already owns and could be playing right now if he wanted to. If people like Jim didn't want this game it wouldn't be released. Those people are clearly the scum of the Earth. It's their fault that developers are giving them things that they want. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Instead of being excited about playing a game you know you like, everyone should be more excited about some game they don't know anything about. That way they get to be disappointed if it sucks.

I never understood the Twin Snakes remake hate, and honestly believe it's MUCH better for anyone who doesn't harbor nostagic feelings of playing the original back in the day.

Voice acting dropping some accents is the only disappointment, but you'd never miss them if you hadn't played the original first. Everything else is solid improvement... even over-the-top cutscenes, especially since Metal Gear Solid has never been "realistic" anyway.

That said, I doubt you can get Twin Snakes for $10. Having this available for anyone to download is a pretty sweet deal.

Sweet. Yeah... I WOULD get this, if I didn't still have my original PS1 copy to play. Think of it as a moral victory, if not a financial one, Konami.

Don't worry too much about it, mrplow8.

I heard they might be canceling Scribblenauts so they can release Street Fighter Alpha 2 Vs. Capcom instead, all because people are excited about Metal Gear Solid on PSN.

Psy-Phi's Avatar
Psy-Phi at 06/18/2009 17:26
Chibi_Zero,

If you own the original, and a PS3, pop it in the PS3 and play it via remote play (anywhere you have internet access).

RitualNet

Haven't played any PSone games on the PSP have you? You hit the home button, go to controller settings, and change the "assign controller ports" to "controller 2". See Custom Firmware is good for something (people figured this out a long time ago, and yes it uses the same software to play the games from the PSN store. I won't be buying any PSone game I can rip myself after buying FF7 and learning that it uses the exact same stuff.
