Perhaps you’ve heard of this game: Metal Gear Solid? Konami released it on PlayStation in 1998. Some people liked it or something.
Well now, you can download it from the PlayStation Network for play on your PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable. That’ll cost you $9.99, and it’s available today.
I wish there were more to say, but what hasn’t already been said about “Hideo Kojima’s groundbreaking original that created the tactical-espionage action genre.” Hey, Konami said that, not me.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Switch the controller # on the PS button menu
I know it makes me a whore, but I'll gladly pay $10 to play this on my PSP >.<
It's the same for every game, but I'm sure they've stuck it in the ingame manual somewhere like they did with Startropics on the NES
That being said, I still have the original discs sitting here, so no need to download (for now).
Yeah, I'm picking this shit up.
Instead of being excited about playing a game you know you like, everyone should be more excited about some game they don't know anything about. That way they get to be disappointed if it sucks.
Still good for a laugh though.
Voice acting dropping some accents is the only disappointment, but you'd never miss them if you hadn't played the original first. Everything else is solid improvement... even over-the-top cutscenes, especially since Metal Gear Solid has never been "realistic" anyway.
That said, I doubt you can get Twin Snakes for $10. Having this available for anyone to download is a pretty sweet deal.
mrplow8: "Jim Sterling's excitement over this game is the reason we don't get creative new ideas from developers."
*checks the internet to see if Scribblenauts is still being made*
Don't worry too much about it, mrplow8.
I heard they might be canceling Scribblenauts so they can release Street Fighter Alpha 2 Vs. Capcom instead, all because people are excited about Metal Gear Solid on PSN.
Konami just got themselves another 10 bucks.
when all is said and done, where the hell is my fat princess?!
If you own the original, and a PS3, pop it in the PS3 and play it via remote play (anywhere you have internet access).

Haven't played any PSone games on the PSP have you? You hit the home button, go to controller settings, and change the "assign controller ports" to "controller 2". See Custom Firmware is good for something (people figured this out a long time ago, and yes it uses the same software to play the games from the PSN store. I won't be buying any PSone game I can rip myself after buying FF7 and learning that it uses the exact same stuff.
been out of the psp scene for some time now. last game i got i think was locoroco when i came out.
is there a way to play any ps1 game on a psp? even imports etc? if so how do i make my rakugaki showtime psp playable?
@ciccio13
...What?
Release it on EU PSN.
We're your most loyal fans, you fuck us over, and we come back for more. We pay more, we get less, cut us a break you cunts.
Me too, me too. I have the original, but I can't take it with me on my PSP (without using remote play anyway)...
