Metal Gear Solid 4 launches Hollywood-style photo

By now, everyone should have had their chance to pick up a copy of Metal Gear Solid 4. In fact, some of you may (or should) be playing it right now. With a number of a midnight launches taking place around the country, we (meaning myself, along with Chad and Aerox) did our journalistic duty and attended the Konami Metal Gear Solid 4 launch party in West Hollywood, California.

It's a rough job -- listening to music; taking advantage of an open bar; eating sushi when it was presented to us; and rubbing elbows with industry pals. Why do we put ourselves through such trials? To bring you these exciting photos, of course, and to remind you that Metal Gear Solid 4 is now available for the PlayStation 3. Also, we like music, drinks, and sushi.

Not far from where the outdoor party was held, Best Buy held their own midnight launch event. What appeared to be hundreds of people lined up to grab their copy of the game, and to snag an autograph from Solid Snake voice actor David Hayter. Hours earlier, on the other side of the country, a similar event with Hideo Kojima took place in New York City. No word on whether drinks and sushi were served.

Any Destructoid readers hit their local game shops for launch events, or did you just wait to pick up your copy today?

[Spoiler: Snake kills Dumbledore.]

Is it any good? I've got mixed feelings about MGS4. In fact this is basically how I'm feeling.

i pickrd up my copy of the Limited Edition this morning. i thought it was interesting to note that there were about six others in line and 4 of them bought the 80GB PS3 bundles.

now i'm sitting at work listening to the soundtrack and counting the hours until i get to play THE game i've been waiting for for years. good thing i took tomorrow off! 3-day weekend + MGS4 = WIN!!!

i think love may just bloom on the battlefield.

Picked it up last night at midnight. A decent sized line. I had to wait for about 20 minutes to get my copy.

I went to pick it up at midnight last night. Only about five other people at the local gamestop. I guess I still feel like this whole series is underappreciated.

that the game is delayed in spain and since in morocco all the games are imported from there I won't be getting it soon.

I went to the midnight release in Times Square. Kojima signed my copy and I also got to meet Chris Randolph (Otacon). The line was ridiculous and stretched around the block, down an avenue, and then another half block. A woman named Yummi also signed my copy. She was sitting right next to Kojima but I have no idea who she is. Anyone have any idea? I'll put up the few pics I took later today on my c blog.

That looks like a sweet little shin dig. Drown the sushi with tasty beverages, always a good time. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy... thinking of taking a personal day from the office tomorrow just to play it endlessly.

Sadly no 80 gig bundle for me. (poor black kid can't pay bills and get a decent job. LAWL.)

I DID pick up the bluetooth headset. Making myself about 40 bucks more broke than I already had been before entering today. But the headset is very much worth it as it's pretty damn comfortable and fits well in my ear.

[obligatory dolphin comment]

Anyways, I don't understand the Penny Arcade thing at all. Not that I can't understand why people hate Metal Gear either. I mean, I love Metal Gear, but I absolutely loathe Splinter Cell with some unexplainable passionate hatred.

Despite the fact that I've played every Splinter Cell and found each one just as sucky as the last one. Still, regardless it just comes right down to what you like and what you dont like. Difference between me and PA is though is that I -know- that it's ok not to like something despite what everyone else might tell me.

IGN told me that Godhand and Lair sucked, but I have yet to be displeased with either of those choices.

Good game. MGS games are like David Lynch movies, you either like them or you don't. I enjoy Kojima's brand of irreverent seriousness, and his strange approach to making games.
Also, when I went to pick up my copy, there was a decent number of people already waiting there for the store to open (about 11 or 12 people), and at least six or seven of them picked up a Ps3. And I live out in the boondocks, so this could actually move a lot of systems, despite what I said earlier.
Anywho, off to play the game (whoooosh)!

I picked up my 80GB bundle from Walmart this morning (also got free $100 gift card). There was nobody there and I guess they had like 3 bundles total according to the lady. Not sure if that was because others had already been there to purchase the bundle. Can't wait to play though.

Hope people are enjoying it though, does sound good/cinematic...

truly a must have game.... Dun believe me, go read my blog on it. IT talks absolutely about jailbait girls being at the mall!

btw, as I tried to play after I got the MGS4 Bundle + Collectors game, you can trade in the inside game back for a 33$ Store Credit and keep the Collectors edition version.

Or you could go in ebay and sell it for 40-50$.

Alright, a few things.

One, Screw you Chad. I want that Sushi.
Two, I still haven't played MGS1-3, so I'm waiting until I get the Essential Collection before I get MGS4.
Three, I don't want to hear any more mindless Snake-Humping than usual.

tl;dr: No PS3 for Blake ;_;
