Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Database sneaks onto PSN tomorrow photo
     Konami

I'm going to level with you -- I have no idea what the hell is going on in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots: Tactical Espionage Action (its full, official title). Having not delved too deeply into most of the games in the series, I'm quickly discovering that there's far more plot there than I can fit in my tiny human brain.

Starting tomorrow, Konami is offering up some help in the form of the "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Database," which will be available for download on the PlayStation Store. The interactive app will contain "the official knowledge base" of everything Metal Gear, spanning back to the beginning of the franchise. Story lines, character profiles, diagrams detailing relationships ... my brain is hurting just thinking about.

If you haven't finished Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots: Tactical Espionage Action, never fear -- the program will black out all information on that particular title until you finish the game. Pretty fancy.

So apparently this game is pretty good, from what I hear. But seriously, does anyone truly know what the hell is going on?

Actually, MGS4 did a lot to clear up the storyline in MG2.

After finishing the game I finally had a clear understanding of what exactly went on during the course of the entire series.

MGS2 was the only one that really left me scratching my head. MGS4 cleared up a lot of it. The others were a lot easier to follow.

Cool!!! But how much space does it take up Nick, oh and get mgs 1+2 and that will clear the probems you've got with four, being a avid, follower, it wasnt hard for me what was going on at all, but I know it can get confusing, hope my suggestion helps!!!!

I always thought that the title was Tactical Espionage Action - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Anyway, I love appendixes like these because it tells me that the creator is so dedicated to making his work into a full-fledged epic that he would go through the trouble of explaining absolutely everything so that the fans don't have to. It's one of the things that made Snatcher great as well.

I am playing through Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes right now for the second time and am waiting on the full collection for the PS2 to come in the mail next week before i pick up 4.

I have played the Sons of Liberty like 5 years ago and only played half of the 3rd one.

I can't wait to play through Substance and Subsistence and then I may wait for MGS4 Sub(stitute for the version you should have waited and bought anyway...

I'd be amazed if anyone likes MGS4 having not played the 3 prior games. You simply need to have at least some knowledge of the backstory. This database will come in handy.

Oh I forgot to actually comment on the topic at hand...

I will "shirley" (@namelesstedd) be downloading this after I am through playing the first three. And the way that its supposed to black out the Fourth's info until you beat the game is a super sweet idea.

I remember the 2nd one being my favorite story even though I can't recall exactly what it was about. . .

That's a great feature.

So essentially, it's basically Sony and Konami's way of saying, "Hey you, too bored or lazy to play any of the other games to know who the hell is who and what is what? Well, why play those games and rather, download a bunch of stuff that tells you everything about it."

That's like telling a guy that you could enjoy buying fish at a fish market than rather going out and enjoying a good day's worth of fishing.

Yeah, it's a sequel. You have to play the others to fully appreciate the story. Actually, playing MGS4 made me less confused. It was MGS2 that really confused me, but MGS4 fixed that. It went from being, in my opinion, the most confusing story in videogame history to being one of the best.

This was really nice of them to do. It'll be cool to get all the little details straight.

So, its like the official version of this?

I love how in MGS4, if something is fucking crazy the obvious explanation is, "the nanomachines." I read a post somewhere that put it nicely; it is the sci-fi equivalent of saying, "a wizard did it." LoL! I love it :)

I'm a MGS nut, and even bought The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2 when it came out, so it's pretty much a given that I'll be downloading this...

I wonder when the Digital Graphic Novel of MGS2 and MGS3 are coming out. The one for MGS1 was incredible. They should put those out on the PSN, in HD widescreen glory.

I saw the Gametrailers Metal Gear retrospective which does a really good job at telling all the major plot points in all the previous Metal Gear games.

That being said I never played MGS3 (I just couldn't get into it) and I still managed to understand most of what was going on MGS4 even though I was often pulling my "wtf" face which kinda resembles the "there's something up my butt" face.
