Metal Gear Solid 4 garners a perfect score in Famitsu photo

While the only videogame reviews that really matter are the ones on Destructoid.com, when a game gets a perfect score in Japanese publication Famitsu, people listen.

And that’s exactly what Metal Gear Solid 4 just accomplished: All four reviewers in the popular magazine gave the upcoming PlayStation 3 game a 10, bringing its overall score to a perfect 40. While the opinion of four people is not the final word on whether a game will be good or not, I have always been fascinated by the games that receive perfect scores in Famitsu.

Over the years, only seven other videogames have accomplished this feat: The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, Soulcalibur, Vagrant Story, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Nintendogs, Final Fantasy XII, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Although varied almost to the point of being random, I adore each and every one of these games. It is neat to know that Metal Gear Solid 4 (the first PS3 game!) will be joining this exclusive club.

The only bad news: This does not help with the agonizing wait until next week when the game finally hits store shelves.

i only value famitsu's reveiws on western releases. whenever a name like miyamoto or kojima is attached to a title, you can't really trust anyone's opinion anyway.

The DOG Island for Wii > any other dog game. Also, FFXII isn't the best game, but I'd have to beat it and read the reviews to see what they mean. Wind Waker and SoulCalibur are totally deserving. Brawl is questionable, it's lacking in a few things(it could add about 5 more characters, and lose Falco).

Anyway, not surprising. If any game is worth a perfect score, I'd put my money on Metal Gear Solid 4.

It doesn't take much for Famitzu to give really high scores to popular games. This one just happens to be extremely popular. I'd like to think the game has no flaws but I'm not that naive or shallow.

I dunno, it's rare for them to give out a perfect score, obviously. And brainderailment, I assume you remember the article on this website about a perfect score not nessecarily meaning a perfect game.

But imo, Final Fantasy XII definitely did not deserve a perfect score.

So which hardcore publication do you believe more? Actually that doesn't matter all I know is that I must have this game!

Seriously, what is enjoyable about these games? If they implement gameplay that isn't 18 yrs old this time I might rent it, but they certainly aren't getting anymore purchases out of me. Although that may be a lie as I've been tricked into buying the last three :(

Famitsu's 40/40 means nothing. Nintendogs, Wind Waker, FF XII, and SSBB are so not worthy of such a score. And this is coming from a huge Nintendo fan (and old-school Square fan).

I know that MGS4 will be great and probably deserves the 40 but Famitsu has no journalistic integrity. People have to pay them to have their game reviewed and they always give perfect scores to games that fanboys expect to get perfect score even before they play them.

OMFG!! soda drinking monkeys??!1! this game gets a 10, but if you could shoot soda packing dogs...it would get that oh so coveted 11.

but for real though, this game will rock..hard and i for one wont put it down...at least till soulcalibur 4 comes out.

Look, I'm happy for MGS fans because MGS4 is getting good reviews, but Famitsu gave Sonic the Hedgehog on the 360 a 30/40 (8/7/7/8). Can we really trust them?

Also, isn't it weird that there isn't a single Western developed game that got a 40/40?

Are you Seriouis? Famitsu gave Red Steel a 40/40? Look, I love my Wii and all, but Red Steel sucked hard, even for a launch title.

The Japanese must have really low standards when it comes to shooters.

Just don't let Jim do the Dtoid review. I'm really getting tired of his sensationalism. There is a reason I read blogs rather than the standard news outlets and that is to avoid pointless dramatization. I'm not here to read a soap opera...I'm here to read about games.

Famitsu is a complete joke. Wait until an actual source reviews (Hmmm Dtoid anyone?). I also remember Famitsu giving one of those below mediocre gundam games for the PS2 (think it was Fed. vs. Zeon) high marks, naturally I was young at the time and I believed them. Regretted it.

Japanese games for Japanese consoles scored by Japanese magazines = minus 10%. 36/40 is still a great score. Can'y wait.
