Metal Gear Solid 4 among six new PS3 'Greatest Hits' titles photo

This morning, Sony has announced a new batch of “Greatest Hits” titles that will be hitting retail on June 16. Because these releases are hitting shelves after E3, we predict that at least five or ten minutes will be spent talking about them at their press conference next week, and we are thrilled.

But let’s get it out of the way right now, shall we? The six titles worthy of “Greatest Hits” status are: Army of Two, Battlefield: Bad Company, Devil May Cry 4, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction.

According to Sony Computer Entertainment’s Vice President of Product Marketing, Scott A. Steinberg, these titles “have reached a significant sales threshold.” This means they’ll have to sell them for $29.99, because everyone who really wanted them was willing to shell out of the $59.99. It also means you’ll be able to get some great games, at a great price.

See anything you passed on at the higher price point, but are willing to pick up as a “Greatest Hit”?

Still no Uncharted Greatest Hits? What the hell, Sony!

Not really, I find a $30 greatest hit price has deterred me from getting a greatest hit rerelease this generation. I can't help but look at those and think I could get a really good brand new ds game.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue? I mean, shit.... as awesome as Gran Turismo 5 is gonna be, putting a glorified demo as a "Greatest Hit" seems mighty presmuptious.

I'd prefer to buy with the original packaging, a pre-owned version for £15 rather than a "Greatest Hits / Platinum" version in a silly package for £20.

Army of Two? Wow.

Right...so a £20 game (GT5P) is going to be reduced to...£20? Thanks, Sony!

This is a sweet deal for Rachet & Clank. As for the rest, well... it's a sweet deal for Rachet & Clank.

(Yes, I know MGS is a good price - but it's been bargain bin material for a while now after all the Kojima acolytes picked it up first week. Keep your eyes open, and you can get the limited edition version for the same price or less... so moving to a Greatest Hits package really isn't exciting news.)

I've been waiting for a drop on: Devil May Cry 4, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. So this is only a good thing for my gaming life... and an insanely horrible thing for my social life and sleep schedule.

To answer your question: No.

Remember when the Greatest Hits lineup was truly that? Oh well. I'm hoping the psychic was right and Sony has a great year, then maybe they'll lower some more of their prices.

No, I hate the new packaging Greatest Hits games get.

While some of the newest Greatest Hits selection may be questionable, does the packaging REALLY put you off so much that you wouldn't buy a decent game at a reasonable price? :(

Usually the Greatest hits games have received a price cut before they get the official overhaul. I always try to find those games with the original package because that packaging is indeed fucking ugly. But I've got these games already. Also what's the deal with Uncharted? That game is pretty damn cheap over here for a long time now. Just try to find it pre-owned. There still are insane gamers who trade awesome games.

@CelicaCrazed

You're gonna enjoy yourself dude, both games are great. No, they're amazing!

Heh. Army of Two and DMC4 can be found for less than $30 at a lot of places. So in reality, 4 games got price drops.

Thats really not that bad of a price for Army of 2, DMC4 and Ratchet. I would probably get Ratchet alot of people like that game, and Takeshi on more than one occasion has spoken very highly of it. Ever time I see it used its still 40-50 bucks. That, Uncharted and Heavenly Sword are all around that price used at EB games. This looks like a great deal to me.

Army of Two and Devil May Cry 4 had been less than $15 on the XBOX for a loong time now. How could they feel justified charging twice as much for a "greatest hits" on the PS3?
And DON'T say "Blu-Ray" because that isn't it.

Best Buy has Army of Two for only $20. Would this raise the price?

Rachet & Clank, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune & MGS4 have been "Platinum" titles for a while now here in Europe. Although many gamers are actually put off buying them now due to the truly awful boxes...

Doesn't America just get Red on their Greatest Hits Boxes?

Anyways, gunna pick up Ratchet and Clank sometime soon...
