A sad loss, but again, this looks good and fun too.
"Every time I hand over project to my staff, always get response like "it has to be your Metal", which I don't think so.. I've asked to my ex-RISING team for making a spin-off. I bet many people would have felt "it ain't Metal" even if the ex-RISING would have been unleashed." -Kojima

In other words, even the cancelled MGS Rising would have been non-MGS.
Also, anyone else find it hilariously ironic that the two main Metal Gear games not developed by Kojima both have Revenge in the title? I wonder if they did that on purpose.
(Also, look at me, posting in a Jim Sterling blog and not angry about something!)
And just like the fall of Hitler was inevitable, so is the fall of all cybernetic web-based applications. Someday a tiny chip will be implemented in every mans testicles that will induce an orgasm at will. And when that day comes, no one will ever need the internet again
Shame they canceled the original title, I was looking forward to a slower paced action title with minor stealth bits and less emphasis on the killing. Platinum seems to be going a little too far with the EXTREMEHOLYSHITHACKINTOONEBILLIONPIECESWITHVENGENCE stuff. Subtlety is dead.
I'll still likely buy it, since it seems like Platinum and Kojima had enough communication to get at least a decent story out of it and some good gameplay to back it up. Plus I'm a sucker for mecha.
Actually, what's really shocking is that 1)he admits it this time and 2)it was cancelled for this reason.
MGS is 2nd only to CoD as most overrated series ever.
Now it's your typical hit them 50 times with the sword so they die type of beat em up, which can be fun at times I'll admit... I just expected better from this title. It doesn't even look like it has the stylish gameplay of Devil May Cry or Bayonetta. I've gone from excited to bargain bin purchase. :/
Rising 2010 vs 2011: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKy0-pbGG3w
Dont know if we read the same article or not, but I thought the main reason was because they couldnt get a focus on the gameplay, it was locked at 30FPS and wasnt smooth, and had complex controls.
So I'm not the only one who got the vibe that the vanquish team moved onto this?
To be fair Vanquish isn't horrible... It just wasn't great. Kinda generic.
However, now that I know that this is just another crazy ass Platinum game - loaded with cyborg ninjas and metal gears - I'm feeling the hype. And if nothing else, I appreciate that Platinum was interested enough in the project to not let it die completely.
