I played Metal Gear Online for fifteen minutes. In that timeframe I was killed ruthlessly and I struggled with the controls. The sign up process for MGO took over five hours for me to complete. I blame the popularity of Metal Gear Solid 4 and weak servers, unable to carry the load of thousands of drooling fans at once.
Things are probably different now. When I played (all fifteen minutes) Konami didn’t have any downloadable content ready. Soon, they will. On January 27, a new mission will be added to MGO. It’s called Bomb Mission. If you’re on the attack, the point is to find a bomb placed on the map and detonate it. If you’re on the defensive the goal is to find the bomb, sit on it, and hope that a chicken bursts out of it*.
The content is completely free and will update automatically when you sign into the game next week.
*Actually, you defuse the bomb with coolant.
KONAMI ANNOUNCES FREE BOMB MISSION FOR
METAL GEAR™ ONLINE
Available on January 27th, All-New Mission Enhances MGO Experience By Requiring Players to Eliminate the Defending Team, Protect the Base, and Plant Bombs to Destroy the Defending Team Stronghold
Konami announced today that an all-new mission for the hit online tactical shooter, Metal Gear Online, the online multi-player player experience that is included free in the retail version of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, will be available for download on January 27th. Free to all registered Metal Gear Online users, the Bomb Mission provides players with an all-new combat experience that expands the playability and adds variety to the online phenomenon. The new mission will automatically be implemented during the regular Metal Gear™ Online maintenance when players sign into their MGO accounts.
In the new mission, the offensive team's objectives will be to detonate a bomb at a targeted location in the map and protect it until it explodes. The defending team must protect its stronghold and prevent the planted bombs from detonating by using a special coolant to nullify an activated bomb and stop the attacking team from approaching the base. To complete the mission and come out victorious the attacking team must detonate the bomb within the mission time limit if they fail the defending team wins.

Terrified of creating a Konami ID.
I witnessed two of my friends go through the demanding process... I swear, I have yet to create one.
Although I may grow brave and attempt the task...
Why, Konami? Why?
You should give MGO another try Brad. The controls are pretty much the same, and the players can headshot faster than before, and the learning curve is a lot steeper than before. Get past that though, and the modes other than the normal and team deathmatches offer something unique from other games.
As for region locking, I'm all for it. I just wish they'd lock the US and central/south America separately. It's absolutely crazy how many mexicans and latinos and brasilians play this game. I remember the first time I saw a guy with the Mexican flag facepaint. His name was "El Sniper negro" or something, and all he did was camp and snipe.
Not that camping and sniping is wrong, it's just--c'mon man, how you gonna feed the stereotype like that?
I swear I just blew my shit all over the couch from laughing at that last line of yours.
I agree with you, though. I love me some Metal Gear, but good Lord. I can't play online.
