Metal Gear Essentials: another reason to buy them all over again? photo

You may have set your sights on the upcoming MGS4 as the next item from Konami to satisfy your Metal Gear needs, but there's no reason why you can't revisit the great games of the past for a refresher course during the interim. Apparently Konami is banking on just that, as PlayAsia has an interesting pre-order listed on the PS2 section of their storefront: Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection

For the low price of $34.90 + $4.00 shipping and handling, you will get the play the three games you've waxed poetic about all over again: Metal Gear Solid, the director's cut of MGS2: Substance, and MGS3: Subsistance. That ought to keep your PlayStation 2 busy for a while. Not only does this seem like a reasonable price, but it looks to be the perfect excuse to retire those tired, old, blue disks form the first game that haunt your otherwise pristine collection. Besides, don't you want all the boxes to match?

[Thanks, Vegas and brownkid]

If I got this, it would be purely for the special editions of 2 & 3, since I already own the vanilla versions of all three of those games. Sounds like a decent deal, though.

Also, I need to hunt down Twin Snakes. If Kyousuke Nanbu hates it, it must be awesome.

If these are the director's cuts of 2&3, I might bite, but otherwise I already own all of these (in fact all I'm missing is substance) and 2 and 3 aren't that great to begin with (imo). But certainly cool for anyone who missed out on MGS the first time (and twin snakes doesn't count)

I ordered mine right when I saw it on Play-Asia, it's a great deal.

@Pacman
They are, according to Play-Asia the set "Includes the directors cut of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence"

Well damn it! This actually works out because I just bought MGS2 substance for xbox and it isnt backwards compatible so... that sucks because I dont have an original xbox and it would cost me $60 and I would be able to play deus ex which i have and Chronicles of riddick which I could buy again but their coming out with a remake and I already have mgs 1 for the cube and mgs 3 for ps2 so basically for $35 I don't know if I want to get a copy of mgs 2?

I've played them all, but around Portable Ops, the MGS formula started getting pretty stale to me. Here's hoping MGS4 doesn't disappoint.

I'd totally snap this up, if I hadn't spent tons of money on the limited edition of MGS3: Subsistence (with the third bonus disc). At this point, I might as well just buy MGS2: Substance and pick up a copy of MGS 1 for cheap, since I have Twin Snakes.

Also, a note: still haven't played Twin Snakes. Or MGS3. I'm crazy like that.

I’ll have to wait until I actually have some money, but otherwise, this looks like a must-buy for me, considering I’ve never played any of the MGS games.

The pack has Subsistence in it? Damn then, that is a good deal. I'll still find subsistence for over thirty bucks used. Plus it has the original two Metal Gears.

Now if only this would come out for Xbox/360. :p

Do NOT play Twin Snakes before you play the original. It ruins it.

What? I did like Twin Snakes remake for the GC.
It was the same game with over the notch action scenes on some spots of the game.

@ Wedge

That was actually including shipping and taxes. I think MGS was $10.50 and MGS2 was 14.99. I guess it was a bit much, but that's the price I pay for living 250km from an eb games.

I bet you could get all 3 used for less than 35 bucks if you go for Tbe Twin Snakes. 2 is like 5 bucks, 3 is under 15, and I'm betting Twin Snakes is also under 15 at this point. But then you'd need a GC and a PS2. I'm cool with that.

That said, I'll be picking this up.

Let us not deceive ourselves... the strongest reason to get this is to get all the boxes to match!!
