I get why they do it, what i don't get is why they STILL act so disproportionally about after this has been clear since 2005 when RE4 came out and it only accentuated with RE5, the first RE6 trailers and the demo.
"Fans still want survival horror, yet Capcom continues to go the action B-movie route."
Again, read my post, they still have 3 solid hopes for Survival Horror in the future, which is why i don't find the logic of raging at Capcom for not delivering something that based on their actions, are never going to deliver.
"Capcom has some serious work to do to win back it's fans. Bringing back Mega Man proper, doing away with it's nickle and dime DLC scams and rebooting Resident Evil will be a good start."
While i wholeheartedly agree with these points, they have nothing to do with my points: Survival Horror ain't dead yet, RE might or might not, depends on what they do after 6 something i guess will be based on sales more than user comments and reactions which IMHO is the real reason of RE going the "Action" route, see this chart for a graphic outlook on things
(Chart made with sales info from VGChartz)
Based on this it's pretty clear why Capcom chose to remove the survival horror elements out of RE, does it suck? yeah, but what hurts the most is the reason why: If the new direction of RE is shit, then people prefer to buy shit than old school RE games. Think about it, every one of those comments on Metacritic means that someone paid 60$ on day one (or more if they bought the Anthology or Special Editions), it doesn't matter how much people rage, bitch or whine, you already bought it, hell, VGCats put it best
There is no way to fix this, it's best to let hope for RE die here and look up to those other 3 options, just throwing it out there.
Poetry.
You keep going on about "American audience" in defense of the game. Were you not practically admitting that Capcom dumbed the game down (in Jim's RE6 review thread) in order to reach a broader audience and that they should have kept the gameplay mechanics the old way? You are aware that Jim (who loathed RE6) isn't even American, aren't you?
I've yet to see any major review site score Vanquish low (quite the opposite). "American audiences" love it. The game sold poorly due to Sega being inept and not properly marketing it (i.e. Binary Domain).
"Sometimes they don't realize there is plenty of ammo, because anyone with a brain would know you don't need to kill ALL the zombies, and melee attacks are powerful, so why would you waste bullets unless you're just kind of stupid in the head?"
Wasn't this the same issue people had with ORC? That melee attacks are extremely overpowered & that you can pretty much sail through most of the game using them primarily, without much strategy involved? Again, where's this "survival horror" you speak of? RE6 fails at being a compelling horror game, as well as a shooter.
Seems to me that you're going on the defensive due to your denial that you shelled out sixty bucks for a fairly lackluster game. American audience doesn't equate to the entire world.
According to those numbers RE2 sold over 6 million copies. Relatively, that indicates it's far more popular than the games that followed it due to the smaller install base of the console it was launched on.
To compare that to later games, RE4 onwards is a dishonest comparison. There are far more PS2's (RE4), 360's and PS3's (RE5) installed than there were PSX's. By nature of the install base, the newer Resident Evil's launched with a naturally larger potential audience.
Fans love RE2. That was the height of the series. People want more of that.
Final fantasy 13 really did suck tho. Anyone who thinks otherwise has probably been brainwashed.
And no. There aren't a "large number of press reviews that agree with the rage". There are whiney little bloggers like you, and there's the Metascore, a full 40 points above what you gave it. Ie: the lowest score on Metacritic. Being the intentional outlier is hardly new for you.
Good god. I can't believe I'm at the point where I'm DEFENDING Resident Evil. I can't stand this series, but your ridiculous bullshit is just tiring. Give it a fucking rest, Sterling.
I rest my case, this is no longer about reason, you're spinning facts into a "logic" that has no sense as long as it supports your point of view.
IcWhatUdidThere ^^
2012 not a good year for my favourite franchises, first Diablo 3 sucked really hard (and still does) and now Resident Evil...
Yes, because the concept of relativity is spinning facts.
Resident Evil selling more now, than it did in 1998 or 1999 is simple inflation. There's more people playing and buying video games now than then. It has nothing to do with the games being "better".
If you want to call that a spin, so be it, but don't be so ignorant to say my "logic" makes no sense.
This guy should really be more respectful to his mother.
i would have loved just a remake of 4 with better controls (i.e. being able to move while aiming or a centered reticle)
Resident Evil 6 is amazing and I am loving it, and playing it RIGHT NOW. I feel sad for the chumps whom listen to Sterling on this one, specially because I KNOW he likes the game, it is just up his alley, quirk gameplay, horror movie feel and good graphics. Hell, the guy loved Dead premonition and Downpour, OF COURSE he likes RE6, he is just being his persona...

Ты просто ботов создал, на этом заброшенном метакритеке 18 человек голосуют всего.
(You simply created bots, there are only 18 people who are voting on this neglected metacritic.)

но я первый кто до этого додумался
(but I'm the first who thought of this)
We all learned something here.
If you want Biboran to go away, don't watch Dredd or listen to Justin Bieber music.
Judging by Dredd's box office take,it looks like most people might have figured that out ahead of me.
