Metacritic responds to more fanboy 'score war' nonsense ... we smell a rat photo

This was already addressed, but it seems like fanboys are still causing trouble with their tendency to use Metacritic's user reviews as giant wang-measuring contests. Feeling the sting from having Killzone 2's user rating reduced to kibble by 360 fetishists, it would appear on the surface that Sony fans responded in kind to upcoming 360 exclusive Halo Wars, giving it a delightful 0.8 out of 10. That'll hurt sales!

This recently made news because people were wondering why Metacritic was still allowing this kind of silliness to continue. However, Metacritic has claimed that this was indeed dealt with, and the Halo Wars scoring happened before the new rules came into effect. Case closed, right? Maybe not.

See, we got to thinking, and we believe this might run far deeper. On the surface, this would indeed look like Microsoft and Sony fanboys having pissing competitions while fiddling with their testicles and snogging laminated photographs of Jack Tretton and Shane Kim. However, Jonathan Holmes offered a very intriguing question, one that has not been asked -- where were all the Nintendo fanboys when this was going down?

Indeed, Wii titles seemed relatively unscathed during the whole fiasco, while PS3 and Xbox 360 exclusives were the ones having their user ratings unfairly fiddled with. Far be it from us to suggest that certain waggle fans are the machiavellian villains pulling the strings here, but think about it. Who would get more pleasure from setting two factions against each other and then laughing like capricious Gods as they sip their chiante?

It's always the ones you least suspect.

Erm... I don't think the "waggle warriors" are smart enough to pull this off though, with the whole "lady puts credit cards in Wii" crowd and all those seniors, under 8-years-old demographic and chai latte drinkers.

i love my ps3 (not sony, but the actual machine) but i think a game shouldn't be rated this far away from the release date. i hear opm gave it a 5/5 (go figure, its a sony made game and full of bias reviewers).
how come they can get a copy almost two months before the games release? does that mean its done and they're just sitting on it? fucking pr bullshit and the game still won't be advertised right until two months after its released.

Nintendo has a vested interest in keeping flame wars away from its products--they wouldn't want those mountains of bills getting singed.

This is the same kind of nonsensical thinking that has given birth to just about every conspiracy theory out there. I think you are over thinking this way too much.

I think it's mostly metacritic's fault for allowing people to vote before the game comes out. That makes absolutely no sense. Also, if good games on the PS3 or 360 are getting bad reviews because of fanboy hate, then maybe the user review system should be done away with. I mean, it's not like it's serving its intended purpose.

Also, it's not Wii owners. It's the PC gamers. We love to see the console fanboys flame up.

What Volomon said. 99% of Wii's are either collecting dust or owned by "casual gamers" (aka middle-aged people who aren't the type to get involved in fanboy wars).Jonthan Holmes is the only Wii fanatic I'm aware of...

...or so the Germans would have us believe.

or somebody's trying to pool the warring fanboys together to take out the innocent "also ran" in an effort to destroy it (as if third-parties in general haven't been doing enough to "do" just that) until the time they can continue their sissy slap fight.

See, conspiracy theories are easy to make.

It's lie that comic circulating: PS3 and 360 fighting for scraps whilst the Wii is in the corner making money, having lots of fun.

The reason for the Wii being unaffected, is because the kind of moron who thinks "X Company loves me!", doesn't see the Wii as a contender.

Go to 4chan, you'll see the silly wars starting with "200X - Year of the PS3" or "2000X - Year of the 360", completely ignoring the GameCube 1.5 + Waggle making fools of them all.

But I'm curious why Metacritic even has user scores for games, especially after all this crap that went down. Take them off so you won't have to deal with this shit anymore. This is why the internet can't have nice things.

Nintendo fanboys are pissed that Brawl got ignored for all the "Best of '08" awards. They are pissed that No More Heroes got a 6.5/10 from Game Informer, who stated the game "was too disturbingly sexual and violent", while the same magazine went on to give GTA IV a 10/10.

They are pissed that so few outlets review the Wii versions of multi-platform games, even when they have superior attributes like Sonic Unleashed.

Overall, they are pissed that people keep saying the Wii isn't the best system ever when it is clearly the best system EVAR.

So don't assume that they are below a little childish hostility towards the over rated games on other consoles.

As long as there are fanboys, user reviews are totally useless.. unless they actually force people to link their Metacritic account to their PSN/XBLive-account and then only allow people to give a review after they have gotten a certain amount of achievement/trophies for said game :-)

@ jonathan: although brawl was the best of the series, it really didn't deserve best of honors. the online mode is broken. as for gaming magazines? who the hell reads those anymore? their opinions matter less each day.

to the "hardcore gamers:" you guys remind me of last generation when i was so upset about noone buying the gamecube. don't worry though, you'll still get the games that you want to play. it's just that you are now the MINORITY in the gaming community. it happens, and there is no end in sight. too bad for you.

as someone who has been gaming since atari, i see this as the best time ever to be a gaming fan. i haven't played a system this much since the nes, and i'm completely satisfied with my purchase. oh, and i'm talking about the wii, just to be clear.
