I still have to check out Wizorb, though.
Even if I hated Wizorb (which I don't, it's awesome) I'd be on board!

Mercenary Kings, next title from Wizorb dev Tribute Games
Tribute Games recently dropped this reveal trailer for their new project, Mercenary Kings, a 2D side-scrolling shooter in the vein of Metal Slug with what looks to be a deep weapon building system. Described on YouTube as being in an early prototype stage, there's no information regarding platforms as of yet and there's not too much to go on, other than Paul Robertson's contributions in the animation department (which pretty much guarantees a sale from me regardless of the product). I loved Wizorb, Tribute's last title, because of how it created depth and complexity in one of the oldest types of videogame, block-breaking games, by cherry-picking elements from the action and RPG genres to create something fresh. This trailer suggests that they might be capable of doing the same thing with 2D platform shooters. I'm totally prepared to let them take their time and flesh it out. You don't want to rush a thing like this. Did you know? You can now get daily or weekly email notifications when humans reply to your comments.
Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)Wow, this looks terrific! Wizorb was a little time-consuming for my tastes (what with the lives system) but it was a great little title nonetheless. This really doesn't look all that special, but still fun. Also giant dog robot.
I still have to check out Wizorb, though. Seems like Paul Robertson is there for the ingame graphics as well, as he did for Wizorb. Yeah! Looks great. I wanna play it. There's a part of me that's burned out on retro-nostalgia games, but this looks like one to try out. It looks like it controls really well, but unless all those guns are unique in some meaningful way it doesn't look interesting. It's got Paul Robertson again! I'm on board! :D
