Mercenary Kings is Contra Pokemon for weapon collecters

5:30 PM on 03.26.2013

Mercenary Kings has a lot of surface level appeal. The dot-art mastery of modern animation legend Paul Robertson is enough for many to make the game an instant purchase. Thankfully, the team at Tribute Games (Wizorb) weren't content to let Paul do all the heavy lifting. They're really going the extra mile to make this 2D action RPG something special.

We had a (sort of) fast talk with Tribute Game's Jonathan Lavigne at PAX East to dig into some of the game's other features, like online and local split-screen co-op, and the huge amount of weapons you can craft and collect. How many weapons? It's a lot more than 151, that's for darn sure.

Check out the interview with Jonathan for more and sound off in the comments about what features you want in the game. The developers are listening.

La-Mulana 2 aims to be more 'intuitive,' still hard as heck

Open world platformer/space shooter A.N.N.E is a retro buffet

Really, why even play clearly deficient retro games? I mean, where are the shmup segments in Metroid? Where are the open world segments in Contra? Where are the line segments in a bisected triangle? A.N.N.E. is one part platformer, one part shmup, one part RPG. And this year at PAX A.N.N.E. has all its systems in play. Maybe we'll all get to play it this year.more

Boy, The Hong Kong Massacre sure looks like Hotline Miami

Hotline Miami by way of Stranglehold or any other John Woo flick, at least. Which is appropriate for the setting. Though I'm also reminded of Michael Mann's Miami Vice movie for some reason. I guess it can't exactly be Hotli...more
