I still don't understand why people call it a gow clone, There are loads of things different. The place and time is different, The enemies are different, The weapons are different and different levels designs. So the only thing that is similar is the game play because ya, No other hack and slash has used two buttons for heavy and light attacks before gow, No. No game before used A or X as jump, no. All its using are key game play mechanics that have been used in many games before it and will be continue to be used in future games.

@Waterman - because it's far more than the same genre.

When i was playing it i was like "OK, so it's a lot like GoW, but it's pretty cool. I hear that in the new GoW you can quicktime your way onto the back of monsters and..... wait a sec, i'm quicktiming onto the back of this monster and riding it. Sheeeeeeeet."

It's not just a clone, it's a blatant rip off, if possible, it would work simply as a GoW mod FFS, just need to add a few horrible platforming bits.

GoW brings interesting new ideas and concepts to the gameplay of each title, Dante's Inferno simply took GoW and coloured it Dante colour.

I liked it, although it was far too short, but I don't appreciate it as anything new or interesting, simply a rehash of GoW, that happens to be multiplat, similar to the whole Prototype and InFamous situation, although I did prefer Prototype in that one.

We'll see how it pans out when i get to play GoW3. - But there will be no "Dante did this better or that better" because Dante did nothing that hasn't already been done in GoW, apart from the whole religious angle.

Side note: It pained me watching my buddy play Dante, absolve absolve absolve absolve absolve absolve absolve absolve absolve absolve absolve absolve absolve boss absolve absolve, big enemy attack attack attack absolve absolve absolve absolve. - Watching the same 2 absolve animations over and over and over and over and over get's pretty boring pretty quickly.

Visceral Games, you guys have got egg all over your faces. On your follow up attempt which I hope there is for your prides sake, consider simply lifting ideas from others then reinventing them, rather then simply ripping of another games mechanics right down to the double jump and the colour of the orbs. FUCKING EMBARRASING! I was shocked at the lack of pride on display (while I was hacking and slashing my way through the nine circles of hell) considering I loved Dead Space and the great spin Visceral put on the survival horror genre. Was Dante's Inferno fun? For the most part. Was it worthy of a full retail purchase? Hell no, I rented it! Try a lot harder next time guys because l really want to reconsider my position. Thanks for the so so warm up, I can't wait for God of War 3!!

It's so funny when people call it a ripoff. MODERN WARFARE MUST'VE BEEN COPIED STRAIGHT FROM HALO, STUPID FIRST PERSON SHOOTER TOTALLY LIFTED EVERYTHING FROM IT, YOU SHOOT THINGS? ALREADY BEEN DONE HELLO MF2 GET SOME NEW IDEAS??

MW2 was a complete ripoff of Doom, a Marine using shotguns and grenade launchers to kill stuff from a first person perspective. So unoriginal.

What video game isn't a "rip off" of another video game? Not many... except the first game that set a standard in a specific genre and has been copied multiple times since... I'd sure as hell rather play a "God of War clone" than a "same as every other shooter" FPS. Despite the similar gameplay mechanics, Dante's Inferno is a whole hell of a lot more original than any FPS you can name.

it is a blayant rip off.
you can't say god of war didn't involve religion just because no one today practises that faith. greek mythology was a very real religion to those people of that time era. its called the god of war!

I really don't understand the whole argument against using ideas from other video games in another title. As a jazz musician, using another artists licks is considered a friendly wink and nod toward their music, and I believe video games work the same way. If a developer manages to use gameplay elements from another game before it and manages to make it a fun experience then by all means go for it.

And for f***'s sake, it's in the hack and slash genre, whining about Dante's Inferno playing similarly to God of War is like whining that MAG is just a ripoff of Battlefield 2, it just doesn't make any sense.

Only way to make an original game anymore is to make a new type of game.

Curses with authority? Urgh. She introduces curse filled rants to a game series that otherwise treats cursing like a big deal. She's the 4channer of the group.
