You know what I just realized? Mass Effect never really ends. When reality collapses it automatically starts over again, with slight variations.
Like sometimes Shep is a psychic guy with an alien girlfriend who literally can't come out of her shell. Then other times Shep is a soldier lady with a different alien girlfriend who's also psychic and has severe parental issues. Sometimes different people are around and they do different things, etc. in general you get the point.
Yet somehow, the thing just never quite jumps the shark, does it? It never gets to the point where the joke gets old and people stop caring.
So nah. Can't complain about the ending. Because evidently, IT NEVER ENDS.

That's great and all, but they are making fun of the problem that isn't there. I don't think anyone is begging for sheppard to live and be acknowledged for his, her, your accomplishments, but rather the fact that a game marketed on the fact that the choices you make have a huge impact on this fictional universe some have been obsessed with for years.
It takes a robust world filled with variables and filters it to 3 endings. I personally think it's a huge deal for those that love the game. For example I love dark souls and demons souls. If the next souls game came out and had all the promise of the first 2, but ended up being super easy to reach a wider audience, I'd feel really alienated.

Also, I love how once again this video demonstrates a lack of knowledge on the subject, as does pretty much every work I've seen denouncing the need to change the ending - I've been frequenting the Bioware forums since the beginning of the debacle, and the idea of 'no sense of accomplishment' has barely, if ever, come up. They almost NEVER actually try to defend the ending on it's own merits, which makes me think that they simply can't find any.

Agree, the bitching level was way too stratospheric. Def had problems with its writing tho, but it aint just the end people. Thing is, if ppl applied the same standards to all games instead of just bioware (one of the best our gen has on offer) and didnt forget what they DID do right along the way, we'd not only have a more mature gaming audience, but better games available in general. If anybody out there buys COD every time it comes out, then bitches about how the narrative didnt deliver in Mass effect, take a moment and consider how hypocritical that is. @KeroseneDreamer - Oh, don't get me wrong, I felt the rest of Mass Effect 3 was brilliant, although it did have problems, ie, what happened to the dark energy issue? What was up with Tali's face reveal? etc. But although I beleive it's a good standarf to live by, I'm not sure that complaining about story problems in all games is going to do much - after all, look at film. Story gets much less leeway for screwups in that medium, yet people will still watch things like Transformers, Bad Boys II, etc. Why? Because they're fun and they have explosions. MW3 is the same - it's not really a game about story, it's about blowing things up (although the fact that the ending was actually pretty satisfying didn't hurt either). Some games are simply about fun - the fact that Mass Effect is pretty much all about story means that when screw ups like this happen, it's all the more noticeable.
I would love all games to have brilliant stories, but it's not gonna happen anytime soon. If we demand a high level of competence for those game which have a speciic focus on story, hopefully sgtandards in at least that genre will rise.

Why do people give a shit about Mega64, again? They've never been particularly funny, just low-budget, half-assed bullshit without even a stand-out comedic talent among them. If anything, they're only consistent in being trolls and whining about how every god damned sketch comedy start-up on youtube gets more attention.
Seems like a pretty appropriate video, considering how much pointless noise the ending created. The fact EA/Bioware actually decided to give into the whiners is probably the most ridiculous part of all.
@Tin Man - actually yeah, that's a fair point - as a supporter of Indoctrination Theory myself, I see where your coming from. However, it's rarely used by detracters of the 'retake mass effect' movement, and is mostly instead used by the supporters. Also, in the end, until Bioware comments otherwise, Indoctrination Theory is a fan theory - nothing more. It's not looking at the ending merits, it's trying to find merits that might not even be their.
If it turns out that Indoc theory is correct then, hurrah, Bioware fooled us, and all is forgiven. But as it is, the ending must be taken on its own merits, of which there are very few.

No. The haters constant bullying their mantra again and again is the pathetic ones. Not saying criticism is wrong. But the way a lot of those critics just go absolutely freaking overboard with the hate is absurd. That's what that video makes fun of.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've given it some real thought and I honestly do feel pretty confident that I.T. is the one, and I made my ending choice(and actually felt pained to have to sacrifice the Geth), under the assumption that the child/harbinger was trying to break my will and stop Shep blowing the reapers away, but if it turns out that I.T. really IS just the clutching for meaning its detractors say it is, then yeah, I've got nothing and this games end becomes considerably emptier =p

Love all the comments saying how Mega64 is beating a dead horse, then proceeding to see dozens of comments of people all talking about their opinions on the ending. Something tells me the sensitivity people have on the subject hasn't been taken care of by a loooong shot. If anything, Mega64 reinforced what a lot of people believe - that for one reason or another, people metaphorically want to receive some sort of trophy for playing these games. And at the end of the day, in a year from now, are you really going to give a shit? No, you'll move on to the next game and forget all about it aside from a few scoffs here and there. That people have latched on to this ending of all of them is completely ridiculous considering there were worse things about Mass Effect 3 than its ending. Get over yourselves.
To be honest I think that Bioware can't win this one. People will complain even if the new ending is good as they will say that this was the intention from the start. Didn't mind the ending too much really myself but I don't think Bioware should change it.

Tony -- The fact that you get lots of emails doesn't make the criticisms accurate. And if they aren't accurate, the satire just isn't funny. It's like a video mocking Obama for being a Kenyan citizen or a Communist. He's neither, and if the premise fails, the satire fails.

I digress. My point is, it's hard to be "ignorant" of a given side when so much "information" is coming in regarding that side's stance. Heaven knows some of you can't stop commenting about it, regardless of Dtoid's actual news/story intake.
Has it occurred to any of you who are up in arms that maybe, just maybe, your position wouldn't need to be defended all the time if it had a leg to stand on in the first place? Sure, there've been more constructive-appearing attempts to address the issue, like Retake Mass Effect, but they tend to be marred with this manipulative, spiteful undertone, rather than being respectful and forthright about things. Plus you've got rogue elements within the general movement that think things like calling the FTC and cupcake trolling are good ideas, because arguing a point like you learned how to on the internet always gets results.
If a respectable number of those actively seeking a new ending to ME3 had gotten together, organized a bit, and presented a clearer, less cacophanous case, there might've been a chance of getting what you really wanted. It's weird how easily people's legitimate concerns can be discredited by people in influential positions calling them whiners or babies, and reducing them to the one or two people that stand out as being particularly hard to get behind.
