Touch controls are beyond gross, and especially after seeing these screens, I realize how terrible it will be - no dash button, so I'm assuming that you'll double tap a direction. Considering that careful dash jumps are required to get some of the items (assuming that the laziness means no gameplay changes) I don't see this being anything besides pure unadulterated frustration.
Still, happy to see the X games getting some love, even if it is a half hearted kinda-sorta-maybe love from Capcom.
Sure, it's MegaMan X (aka. one of the best 16-bit games of all time), but at the same time the new visuals look... Cheap. Look at the background in the header image, it looks terrible.
The Penguin Boss (Forgot it's name) looks like one of those Super2XL-ized sprites that everyone hates and doesn't fit in with the hand-drawn (?) X sprite.
So confused, stupid Capcom.
As to the art style... looks fine to me.
As the other said, though, touchscreen controls would be godawful for a game that required this kind of precision and timing. Would they just make little controllers for these things and be done with it?
A lazy port with graphics that look like a flash game and controls that instantly make the game feel like it's on xtreme difficulty.
I think that is what you're getting at :D
Of course, they lost me at iOS. I love my iPhone but trying to play games like Mega Man are pure frustration. I'd love a remake of X on my 3DS, tho. Better yet, a new 2D Mega Man series with nifty 3D effects.
... Oh, oh that's right. They're Capcom.
I completely agree.
@Epic
Well, fuck.
Seriously, if iOS can get more games on the level with Infinity Blade, it will more than earn its legitimacy as a gaming platform.
Tell you why the did this though: Because its on iOS. Capcom obviously believes they needs to slap on a colorful, dumbed down, coat of paint on some of their games to make them appear like they belong on that platform. I wouldn't be surprised if we find out they took Maverick Hunter X as the base and just recovered it with this BS.
Don't really get the reason they'd even bother to move away from the original style of the game, animating it doesn't make it any better and pixels are just as fun. Besides, that game always had a super smooth look to it.
Either way, touch controls are bad enough, and seriously seem yucky for a game like this, but the visuals are a surefire way of keeping me away all together -and this really truely is one of my all time favorite games. Thats a big achievement there Capcom, so good work, you just proved again you have no clue about what your doing with your -almost- one time mascot.
Almost like it got adapted for a children's cartoon.
I can't help but feel that this style was chosen to prevent the same fans that loved fat old Sonic from complaining about a reproportioned Megaman.
If they nerf the difficulty enough, it might work on iOS.
Either way, count me interested.
You mean you didn't know that megaman was 90% legs and head? Its a clever optical illusion, so ill let it slide this time.

And X needs a brand new installment. Rayman, Kirby and Fucking Donkey Kong had them and they are all fucking glorious games.
