Now, you may read that headline and go, "Of course you would say that, Tony! You suck on the teat that is Mega Man 24-7!" But AH! I've got proof to back up my claim! Development on Mega Man Unlimited began a little over three years ago, and it was originally an interpretation of what Mega Man 10 could be (before the official game was actually, ya know, announced). It was so convincing as an authentic product that Capcom got confused and used some of the game's assets to create the Mega Man 10 homepage! There's a big story behind that which I'll explain at a later date.
Mega Man Unlimited is the brainchild of Philippe Poulin, better known as MegaPhilX on YouTube and deviantART. This fan game was originally a concept animation created for a Capcom-Unity contest, but Phil got excited and decided to go ahead with a full project. Development technically reaches further back, as many of the Robot Masters were originally conceived during his childhood. Progress has been slow, but as the latest trailer above demonstrates, all that time and effort has been worth it.
There is so much to talk about that I couldn't begin to fit it all in three short paragraphs, but I'll spare you from my ramblings. For now, watch the trailer and hit up Phil's YT and DA galleries for screens, extremely early gameplay footage, music, and more.
Tony Ponce (aka megaStryke) is a culturally confused, Canadian-born Puerto Rican who grew up in Japan and South Florida ... yet can only speak English. He specializes in writing features and maintaining an immaculate goatee. Likes: Any and all things related to Mega Man, Contra, Castlevania, 2D, PB&J sandwiches, applesauce, and candy corn.
Meet the rest of the team
I've been following this for two years now, and It is by far one of the greatest fan made games ever. They aren't rushing anything to get it out and it looks beautiful. I can't wait to see the final product in action.
I saw videos of rainbow man and tank man a LONG time ago. Had no idea this was still happening. I did like what I see, and his stage design skills may be even better by now.
Am glad MegaPhilX finally finished this, I remember seeing the video for Tank Man a long time ago too and was pretty impressed, definitely gonna give this a try
I believe a fan sequel to Chrono Trigger got shutdown some time ago as well. I love the heart behind these kinds of projects. As long as they don't try to sell it, I don't see the harm. Looks legit!

So where is this promised "proof" that Mega Man Unlimited is anything other than a gigantic pile of shit? It's not out yet, you see, so it's hard to back up such a claim.
What about actually good fangames like Rockman 4 Minus Infinity or... shit, even RosenkreuzStilette?
A big reason the SoR remake was crushed by Sega was due to them still selling the game on Steam and XBLA, the SoR remake provided all the content from those games and so much more.
Megaman is dead, I doubt Capcom will care enough to squash this, plus this is hardly the first megaman fan game out there.
odd why company wouldnt want the streets of rage remake or this to come out... all capcom has to do s buy it off them and sell it... they wouldve spent $0 on creating it, and it would only cost them money to test it and maybe make it compatible with XBLA and PSN and then theyre done. with this and SOR remake theyd save milions in developmental costs and it makes for a cooler story that fans made the game. might spark more revival interest and we can see some badass classic games given sequels or spinoffs that we have wanted for years but never got. I mean hell.. it took long enough for a damn kid icarus sequel after the gameboy one. same for boy and his blob.
@GrimmTrixX: I doubt that most game companies look at fan projects and consider them on the same level of quality, or worth their time to personally pick up.
That said, this game gets one thing pretty spot on. The music just feels right for a classic Mega Man title.
May be the best? I call bull-shit. Have you seen Mega Man X Corrupted?
Not only does Corrupted try to mimic everything that made Mega Man X great in his SNES days, it EVOLVES them to make them BETTER. Metroid-style map, upgradeable powers, swappable armor that creates new effects, etc. Best of all, it actually looks like it's made by Capcom.
Unfortunately I can't say the same for Unlimited. It looks like a good game, sure, but the enemy design just reeks of fan-game. Seriously. Re-watch it and really pay attention to the designs.
