D-Chap found a
Windows application that emulates an effect seen in the classic Nintendo game Mega Man 2. When you launch an application, the screen goes dark, stars sweep the night sky and your application's icon is presented in a blue letter box bar with a cheesy 8-bit music introduction.
I'm not even a Mega Man fan, but I have to admit that's pretty cool. I'd love to see something like this in a Mario 64 style transition.
