Mega Man 9 turns 1, Capcom to tell us something fun photo

One year ago today, Mega Man 9 was released onto the world, and people are still playing the damn thing. Though many found the game's 8-bit style to be ridiculous and alienating, others (such as myself) thought it was one of the best releases of 2008, and one of the best 2D platformers ever made.

Retro sensibilities aside, Mega Man 9 was an important game in many ways. It was the first game to ever be released for download on all three major consoles, and it marked Capcom's first (and thus far, only) excursion into WiiWare. It also brought the original Mega Man back into the spotlight after almost ten years of taking a back seat to descendants like EXE and Zero. Perhaps most importantly though, Mega Man 9 helped give birth to the Mega Man Maker; the only place on Earth where a Mega Man's dog can eat anyone's ass, even the red/blue butt of the last boss of Street Fighter 3. Ah, the memories.

Capcom's going to announce some birthday related info later today on their community blog, so keep your eyes peeled and your fingers crossed. With the Tokyo Game Show going on right now as well, this might actually be big news.

They should have stopped the Mega Man series after Mega Man X3. Cause the story has just gone down hill after that.

I can't argue with the that point, but to me, playing Mega Man games for the story is like reading Playboy for the articles.

Any of you internet loving kids ever heard of Playboy?

Playboy magazine?

Anybody?

Man I'm old...

I bet they're finally gonna give some hints as to what the secret nobody has unlocked yet is.

@Holmes
Go to dinner with Seth, get him all liquored up, and ask him what the fucking secret is.

Aw, but if you stop at X3, you lose the Zero revelations! :)

Articles in Playboy indeed.

That said, a whacked out, old-snake-dying, its-all-lead-up-to-this Blowout story in a Mega Man 10 would make me ridiculously happy.

@Chronic
X4 was the only game that really HAD a story.

(... no, not really)

But Mega Man 9 was cool though, I would love some more HD 8-bit style games.

I have been thinking about how great this game is and how brilliant it was to release this game as a 8 bit remake I would love more games like this from more devs

@Monodi: I'll take a US port of the Legends PSP collection.

I just hope today's "special revelation" is about MM9 or 10, MMX9, or Legends -anything- and isn't something silly like a confirmation that we're getting the EXE/Starforce crossover.

@Chronic: i hope you're joking, theyre not about the story, and mega man 9 isn't even in the x etc series, its a continuation of the old style, even before the sliding and charge shot.

I really do read Playboy for the articles... :(
I figure I'm 28, I've seen my fair share of tits in life... I really do legitimately enjoy the magazine for the stuff that isn't airbrushed naked women who don't know what pubic hair is.

Though the tits are nice too.

"Capcom to tell us something fun."

Is it the continuation of the Megaman X series? Cause you know, everything after X6 was pure shit.

@MuddBstrd Yeah. When I first saw that image I thought he was going further down to kiss Mega's butt.

Either one would be wonderful.

For shame - the Mega Man Maker no longer works!

A ha ha!
Playing Mega Man for the story is like going into a Michael Bay flick for the plot. Not necessary, man.
I agree with ya, Holmes. Mega Man 9 is an amazing retro experience and still one helluva stand alone title worth playing, over and over again.
For those people who shun the 8-bit look, shame on you. Shame. Shame. Shame.

I agree wholeheartedly with Tubatic. MM9 was one of my favorite games this past year, and there are few games I want more than MM10 in a similar style.

Also, what is that fucking secret?!
