Mega Man 9's in-game store revealed: Transvestite Man power-up costs 200 bolts? photo

Today, NintendoWiiFanboy.com revealed some interesting details about the in-game store/shop to be featured in Mega Man 9. Just like in Mega Man 7 and 8, the shop here is run by Auto (the strangely Mr. Destructoid-esque robot mechanic), who can produce some mega-mildly useful power-ups from bolts found throughout the game.

But hello, what's this? Some of the power ups here are a bit "different", like the book that allows for Mega Man to change his hairstyle, and a Roll head that lets Mega Man... dress like his sister Roll? We can't be sure, as the translation of the power-up is just "Costume", but seeing as how Roll's head is the item's icon, we have reason to believe that Mega Man 9 will be the first game in the series to feature full on cross-dressing.

There goes any chance for modern youth to grow up right. Because of this game, boys of today are all going to end up thinking wearings dresses is ok... AND IT'S NOT.

OK, I could be jumping to conclusions. This power-up might just give Mega Man the option for new looks. Ryu, Zack (and Wiki for Rush), or Frank West flavored outfits would all be cool, new, non-transvestite fashion options for the Blue Bomber. Even so, with Roll's head as the icon, this power-up still implies dirtyness. Is she the one dressing Mega Man? Or maybe she's the one physically helping him take his clothes on an off? No matter how you slice it, this the kinkiest Mega Man power-up to hit the series since the "Hard Knuckle", obtained from the (insert penis joke here) "Hard Man" back in Mega Man 3.

First sexual innuendo, now cross dressing, or at least, having your sister pick out your clothes for you? What's next, Mega Man? Kissing a Hedgehog? Luke Skywalker meets Debbie Does Dallas? When will videogame's sick river of filth ever stop it's poisoning passage into the pure, prepubescent minds of our innocent, impressionable youth?

I only care about the ability to remove the helmet. Anything that reminds me of Megaman Legends is a good thing.

Wow, trying to pass off some sort of deep-seated fear and hatred against cross-dressers as funny; that's both new and original.

Every bit of info leaking about this makes me harder than Hard Man could ever be.

@ Robo Sheep- I guess you didn't get the joke, or are just a really sensitive. Or both.

I was making of how reactionary the media is against anything even vaguely "unwholesome" in a videogame. Trust me, I love cross dressers as much as the next guy. Alfred Ashford is like my favorite video game character ever.

@ cjpkiller- I guess you really didn't get the joke, or you just can't read. Or both.

The power up is called "Costume", not "Roll comes on screen for a bit and helps him out".

But wait, I said that already. Telling you twice isn't going to suddenly advance your ability to read, is it?

Man, I don't know why you non-readers spend so much time on the internet. What do you do, just come here for the pictures?

As excited as I am for Mega Man 9, it's irrelevance next to Mega Man Powered Up is astounding.

WHY HAVENT MORE OF YOU BOUGHT THAT GAME YET?

@superezekiel: Because it's nigh impossible to find? Because people don't like amazing games? Because there's Mega Man 8-esque voice acting? Actually, that last one kinda conributes to the sheer awesoome that is Mega Man Powered up. Anyway, that's all I got.

@Jonathan: Awesome article. I laughed my ass off. So much so that I woke up my roommates. Well played, sir. Well played.

I really am curious to find out what it'll be, though.

Isn't Mega Man a robot? If so, he can't really crossdress, in the strict sense. His gender is merely programming and aesthetics. Turning him into Roll wouldn't be too outrageous, as it would only involve altering his programming and modifying some of his external plating. Though, it will probably just allow you to switch out Megs for Roll.

Yeah, I know I took that way too seriously. At least I didn't call you an idiot.

Knowing that he has a sister named Roll makes it awfully tempting to become one of those ubernerds who only calls him Rock Man.

Maybe you can play as Roll. Or maybe you can play as Megaman whilst Roll provides some sort of back-up on a level.

Happy for the shop. I always liked that power-up that let you land on spikes.

Meh, MMPU is good, but its not incredible. The backgrounds of the levels is very generic.. even more generic than the original MM. The music is super cutesy KAWAII ridiculousness. The graphics are far far too cute for my taste. I don't know..

If MMPU had MHX's sense of style and presentation or if MHX had MMPU's level builder and THOUSANDS OF PLAY-THROUGH OPTIONS, then they would be the best games of all time. Instead, I feel like they're both missing half of the picture.

I'm not the only one who assumed that the slide ability would be purchasable, right? I guess there's strong evidence that slides might still be involved.. but we'll see...
