Mega Man 9 DLC is live on WiiWare, other networks incoming photo

If you're one of those who find the Mega Man 9 DLC evil and harsh, then it's time to shake a fist in the air and scream "BISOOOOON!" As of right now, you can officially purchase Endless Attack and the Protoman character for Mega Man 9 via WiiWare and the PlayStation Network,

We’re proud to announce that the first of the Downloadable Content packs for Mega Man 9 will be available this week. Here’s the run down on what’s coming out.

Endless Attack – Test your skills on a stage without end. Try to break the record for getting the farthest. Results will be displayed in the Rankings page. Not compatible with other Challenges.

Proto Man Mode - Play the game as Proto Man. Some of Proto Man's abilities may differ from Mega Man's. Proto Man has the Charge Shot ability, Power Slide ability, and a shield that he can utilize to deflect bullets at enemies. However, Proto Man also takes double damage and has double bounce back when he is hit.

There is no story for Proto Man and he is not compatible with Rankings or Challenges.

Both DLC packs are available now on WiiWare Channel today (October 6 th, 2008) with XBLA following on October 7 th, and PSN releasing October 9 th.
How many of you are plonking down the cash for this stuff? They seem like neat little additions for the die-hards, but it's not something I'd personally cream one up over. If you're a Mega Man nutter though, boot up your Wii and get downloading. It's a step up from Horse Armor, at any rate.

Preplanned and premade DLC = BULLSHIT.

The only thing worse is DLC that is already on the disk, such as Beautiful Katamari.

Protoman sounds like a gimmick, however the endless attack sounds fun.

No story for Proto Man is a deal breaker for me.

I'm not seeing it on the Wii.

I'm definitely not getting all of these. I just want the one that adds a new stage and a new boss.

Might get this, just finished mm9 today. Still feel kind of ripped off.
Yeh, DLC that's already on the disc is the most ridiculous thing ever. Remember NFS: Carbon and NFS: Carbon collectors edition? Same content on the discs, but the DLC was already unlocked on the collectors edition. EA are the masters of this stuff. Criterion really seem to know where it's at with Burnout Paradise's free dlc..

@Endstiem: Yeah yeah, we know, on-disc DLC is bollocks. The funny part is that clearly we know what the game companies are doing, and yet they don't bother to even pretend that isn't the case. Like getting people to download a 10MB file that really does nothing at all.

Anyways about this, I'm not sure. I might pick it up since the game itself was awesome and only like £7 so it isn't as if the whole package together is a rip off. It's nice that you can pick and choose bits. I'll try Endless Mode and at least the first of the difficulties, but aside from that I don't really feel the need. It was a great games as it is and it doesn't need anything extra.

I'd like Proto Man, mainly because my favorite Mega Man ability has always been the charge shot. Him taking double damage however is news to me and now I'm reconsidering. Perhaps I will, perhaps I won't.

Endless attack mode sounds like a definite buy for me. I'd have to see how it actually works first, but I think I'd go for it from the description.

I have exactly 200 points so I don't have anything else to spend them on.

Yeah, I'm also not seeing this as available. Perhaps it will be when the Wii shop channel gets updated at noon? Maybe the Atlantic difference is the issue here.

Question: How much is this "DLC" going to be on xbox live?

I would rather they did this than include everything with the game and charge $20. At least this way, if you don't want it, you don't have to pay for it.

Oh, and *raises fist* BIIISOOOOOOON!!

I'll happily pay just because it's been one of my best spent $10.

Hey, MM9 is ground breaking, the fact they have shite DLC is because they are too good for you. If you hate this, you are not patriotic.

I agree with Endstiem what happened to unlockable after you finish a game? I love this game but the DLC can get lost.

If it weren't for the fact that Mega Man Powered up had so much free DLC, this wouldn't seem like such a screw job.

Still, I'm going to buy all the MM9 DLC they put out.

what wardrox said

If they could cram all of it in, and still charge 10 bucks, it sucks. maybe it would drive the price to 15. at fifteen, we had a brouhaha when braid came out, and a lot of people missed a great game for it.

At 10, you can impulse buy it. If you enjoy the game, and finish it (as not many will) paying 2 bucks to have an all new experience trough the stages with protoman is next to nothing. If you didn't finish the game yet, and think that you need the DLC, you are doing it wrong.

Planning to pick up both the Extra Stage and ProtoMan tonight. The fact that I can now re run this game with a new character, Sonic and Knuckles Franken Cartidge style is pretty awesome. Plus, despite the weakness of X6's randomizing stage bit, I'm really very interested in an infinite stage. maybe that'll be more reflex reactive than memorizing, which is an interesting change in dynamic.

Not getting it, but then that's probably not much of a surprise. I don't think the add-ons are outlandishly priced for what they are, I just don't want them.

While the endless stage music is great (heard it on the OST), I've only got 100 points left on my Wii and it just doesn't feel worth the trouble of entering my damned credit card info via Wiimote again. So...not anti-DLC, but pro-lazy.

I wanted to hold out for Gradius Rebirth to be released in the US but screw it, Im spending eight of my extra ten wii points for the MM extra content.
Though it does feel like cheap add-ons that shoulda been unlockable. However with all the content is really a twenty dollar game, so not too bad.

Though Protoman shoulda had more to him than just classic style gameplay and no story bits so we can "Finally" see his side of the story. Though Bass and Treble are completely absent so story wise we are getting semi gipped anyway. Though thats for the sack of the classic feel.

Also when thinking about it, alot of the content could easily be in these files.
New sprite or code could easily be ten kilobytes or so.
The Protoman file is 2 blocks, so thats about 16Kb (since blocks are actually bits measurment. 8 bits is a byte, 8 kilo bits is a kilo byte and so on)
Though even with 16Kb it does seem that they used parts you already downloaded. However theres aparently some code in there so possibly left out animations or code. So you are getting something at the least.
Also protoman is two bucks. For three it was a rip, but two is good enough.
Though Why did they need to remove the shop too? Though maybe the absence is for a classic feel?
I think it wouldnt have hurt to add more and charge an extra buck or two.

The Endless level file is about two or so blocks as well.
Though its obvoius that the data is already downloaded too.
Though I see some recolors here and there.
But its safe to assume that ones just a file to unlock it and maybe include some finalization code, but who'd know.

Ya, its a bit of a rip when it shoulda ben unlockable :/
Though I've got enough to do with MM9 as it is and they woulda harged twenty bucks for it all in one anyway.

Just wish they wouldn't wait it out since its pretty much just unlocking codes.

Hmm, not to mention it seemed to have locked my MM9 save so I can't back it up anymore. The Pay and play protoman file on the other hand copies just fine.

Hmm, I find this odd.

Anyway, an extra few bucks or so isnt too bad I think.
I just want the full package myself though.
But Im a megaman fan anyway.

I'm not gonna get the DLC, and ordinarily I wouldn't care. But what really bothers me is that other people are so willing to let Capcom know that it's okay for them to take advantage of us. I'm all for the idea of "vote with your money," but if so many morons are going to throw away their $2, add up all the morons out there and you've got a heap of cash that lets Capcom know that they've got the greenlight to take away features from future titles and charge as they please.
