Mega Man 2, meet crazy Japanese screamo

     WHAAAAAAT?

Though it's likely that this has popped up somewhere before, it's New To Me™, which means it's New To Some Of You™, too. In the vein of the Minibosses comes this video, a screamo-esque cover of Mega Man 2's Wily's Castle theme set to, obviously, footage from Mega Man 2. Good for a listen, great for a laugh, but definitely not something you want on your iPod. Well, not something you ought to want on your iPod.

Kinda makes you wonder what portals to hell would open up should Death Cab for Cutie or somesuch cover the Wiseman theme from Konami's Goonies II. Consider this your warning, pansy whinerock bands: stay away from my games and leave 'em to the professionals. Or learn how to sing. Whichever comes first.

[Thanks Geoff!

Death Cab for Cutie is whine-rock. They whine about stuff. That's about as far as I define 'emo'.

Whiny whine whine whine.

Post amended to reflect my gross generalization of music I don't like!

Fair enough, their lyrics are whiny, but in terms of music, they certainly lack the emo sound. I apologize for the pickiness, it just annoys me a bit when genres are identified incorrectly.

I also have a bunch of other remixed retro game sounds from the same people if you're interested?

Oh, and I almost forgot: that singer? He needs to never sing again. Ever. I almost enjoyed that except for the entire vocal track.

If you look at the videos that person has uploaded, you can find a vocal-less version of it.

We have very two different ideas of what screamo is.

Mother of God that was awful.

That was fucking awesome. Not so much the ability of the screaming, but the lyrics...my god.

"I'm wearing 3-D glasses!"

as much as that video shows how epic the mega man 2 journey is, its hilarious that the best weapon to beat the final boss is bubbles.

I just want to say that I thought that song was brilliant. I also want to say that as much as I enjoyed that song, I am also a big fan of Death Cab.

While I'm at it, I thought that I would mention that Death Cab was on an episode of 'The O.C.'. Does that make them more emo than indie?

Hah, well said. The entire Mega Man series in general, (though I've only played maybe 4 of the many more than 4 created), was freakin hard. I just never liked the physics I think. Anyway... just want to mention that Mega Man gets tore up in this video and is rarely at full health or not blinking. ;)

@ Castro

The O.C.? Make things emo? As much as video games cause violence.

It wasn't so bad, and for a minute there i thought it might as well be a commercial for the game.

@Necros

Bah! I was just saying that once you get on The O.C. you aren't that "indie" anymore. I also don't know what the hell "emo" means, so don't listen to me. I have this idea that "emo" people are really depressed and cut themselves. I imagine them listening to Depeche Mode.

Necros at 02/22/2007 01:44
@ Castro

I guess not, now that they're on Atlantic Records. However, their musical style still fits in more with indie than with other forms of rock, so its the most appropriate label.

In terms of a stereotype, you hit the nail on the head for emo people. Obviously, stereotypes aren't always right, and there are many emo people who aren't total basketcases. However, there is a high chance that they will be as pretentious as I'm being right now.

And Depeche Mode is synth pop or new wave. Either way, it's terrible.

*Knowledge is power!*

Depeche Mode .... in the UK thats somtimes classed as Goth :-D work that one out.
That track, take the shitty vocals out and it's kinda just dragonforce... but a bit slower. Enjoyable none the less.

Wait what....do you know what screamo is? A core element to screamo is, um, ACTUAL screaming, not loudly singing or chanting in the background. This doesn't even close. This is pop punk/emo at best...

The singer isn't bad, he is just trying to reach pitches he can't possibly reach effectively.

PS: Death Cab is SO emo! Indie rock is usually a term thrown around by emo kids who hate to be labeled as that and just run off to a corner and cry and slit their wrists about it, haha

Though none of you like to admit it now, EMO was cool between Summer of 2001 to about mid Fall of 2001. Yep, those 3 and half months sure were depressing!

In your dumb debate over what is emo and what is screamo (like we care, it's a flippin video game website), you all are missing the fact that who ever made the footage of Mega Man 2 totally stormed that game. I always found MM2 super hard for some reason. Now I know how to kill everyone. Thank you Japanese Punk Screamer!

It ain't hard to kill everyone and everything in MM2 like melted button; Metal Man's saw's chops everything in half.
