Mega Man 10 has a challenge mode, also candy photo

One of my favorite things about Mega Man 9 was the game's Endless Mode DLC. Combining the best aspects of roguelikes with traditional Mega Man gameplay just clicked. Tons of randomly ordered levels, plenty of exciting hardships, awesome music, survival-horror tension, and online leaderboards. Yeah, it's pretty awesome.

Looks like the Mega Man 10 will have something similar. Mega Man 10's Challenge Mode forces the player to make it through new levels with certain predetermined restrictions; no jumping, no damage, no attacks, that sort of thing. Do well and you'll get a medal, and medals are awesome, way more awesome than not-medals (which is what you get if you do crappy). We've heard about this mode before, but this is the first time Destructoid has done a full post on the news, so deal with it.

Also announced is a new Mega Man 10 branded gummi-candy. Each tin comes bursting with candies of different shapes and flavors, each to corresponding with one of the game's eight weapons. Ever wanted to know what Thunder Wool tastes like? Now you can find out (that is, if you have a way to get you hands on this Japan-only candy).

My guess is that Thunder Wool should taste like an angora sweater soaked in Redbull, but in reality, it will just taste like a pineapple gummi bear. Either way, I totally want some.

I hope the Challenge Mode is like the Powered Up game's mode.

I can't believe they passed up the greatest opportunity ever to make Rockman Rock Candy.

The marketing writes itself.

I can't believe I'm gonna have to pay for another Wii point card rather than paying for the game's price alone!

Endless mode was cool, but paying for what is essentially a random generator was worthless.

Wait... aren't those based off fruit drops, that are hard candies? Anyways I'm getting pumped for 10, going to hate myself trying to get all the medals.

I think you're selling it short, King Sigy. They weren't exactly random, just sets of 5 or so screens strung together in different orders. They were well designed like any other stage, and many were throwbacks to classic levels (like the water/spikes sequence from Bubble Man's stage).

I probably got more enjoyment out of Endless Attack than the regular game, and I really hope they carry it over from MM9.

You know I completely missed the Endless Mode DLC, and you have just sold it to be a year hence. Kudos, Holmes, kudos.

@Kraid-

You'll want those leftover points for the DLC. You know it's worth paying $2 for Protoman.

@lewness,

Powered Up was fine, but Maverick Hunter X was MUCH MUCH better.

Those candies do look pretty hard. Maybe I translated it wrong? If you buy those candies and they end up being hard, you can sue my lawyer.

And Maverick Hunter X is pretty awesome, though I'm partial to all the extras in Powered Up. Maverick Hunter is a better game at its core, but all the extra modes, the level editor, the ability to play as Rock, Roll, Proto Man, and every boss, it's just too awesome to contend with.

Like @mooks I never got this endless mode dlc you speak of. Now I feel I must.

I disagree with Maverick Hunter being better than Powered Up.

The extras in Powered Up warrant its asskickery. What's more fun than kicking Wily's face in? Or attempting to use that damned worthless Oil Slider to kill him?

Plus, Maverick Hunter fucked up my favorite song from X. That being Armored Armadillo's stage.

The music in Maverick Hunter X sounds like it was composed by the tone-deaf, mutated love child of Moby and Crystal Method.

Can you find out what the third character is somehow, if there's any? I haven't heard any news that there actually is one.
