Media Create: Fallout 3 has a strong Japanese debut photo

Japanese gamers are not the biggest fans of Western shooters, but Fallout 3 still managed to rank in the top ten in last week's Media Create sales numbers for the island country.

Debuting at a respectable number 9 with 30,600 units sold, the Xbox 360 version of Fallout 3 did pretty well. Knowing that the Xbox 360 install base is limited when compared to the PS3 in Japan, that's pretty good. The PS3 version comes out in January of next year.

As far as the rest of the top ten goes, the third Professor Layton is still tops in Japan, just like last week. The fantastic Kirby DS port and the questionable Animal Crossing: City Folk are still high rankers, too. Check out our review of the latter in our reviews section.

Japan loves it some post apocalyptic stuff.

It is the land of akira and fist of the north star.

Why didn't they release both versions of Fallout 3 at the same time?

Wow I can't believe the Japanese have bought 30,000 copies of a game that features practically no cutscenes, androgynous characters or even a love interest. Hopefully Japanese RPG makers will take note of some of the gameplay innovations in Fallout 3 and ESIV and apply them to their own games.

Good news for western developers.

This is great news. I'm sure japanese gamers would like more western games, but the problem is many fear being a renegade in a very conformist society. Good to see those chains breaking, because then they will learn a lot from playing some Fallout 3.

I also think its the case that due to them being the only nation who've been nuked, experiencing such a post nuke environment may be alien to much of japans gamers.

Bethesda will be throwing a party early this xmas.
