Medal of Honor: Modern Combat seems inevitable photo

World War II? That's so 1944! A few weeks ago we talked to you about Medal of Honor: Modern Combat, a name that had been trademarked by Electronic Arts and seemed to indicate that the series would be going the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare route and shunning the overdone WWII theme. Now the rumor has been given a fresh coat of paint, with one industry source claiming this is definitely a thing that's happening.

"It’s a new take on the modern warfare idea," the insider tells MCV. "and will really help give the series the kick up the arse it needs.

A new Medal of Honor is definitely in the works, but Electronic Arts has refused to comment on whether or not it will indeed be set in the present day. It seems like an inevitability though, given the runaway success of Modern Warfare 2 and the undeniable staleness of WWII shooters. I doubt EA is the only one looking at more contemporary settings for FPS games.

Will they seriously call it Modern Combat though? I've seen some shameless things in my time, but come on.

Modern Combat is already reserved.

We have Modern Warfare and Advanced Warfighter. I'd put my money on Advanced Warfare.

The world needs more quality vietnam/korea era shooters. I think EA should make one of those.

Whenever there's a cool, new FPS setting, every new FPS has to follow suit. The modern war is going to become WWII.

The new Medal of Honor will probably rule over Call of Duty. They're going to do exactly what they did to dominate over PES with Fifa 10.

the problem is they mostly stick to american involved wars. correct?

if they really want to make a war game thats ground breaking with a story. try the african world war or second congo war.

the all WWII FPS genre started with medal of honor as I recall... later with Call of Duty everyone said "another WWII title", but everyone kept playing it... i dont know if anyone played COD3.

But medal of honor titles seem to have fade into oblivion.

How is this?

Medal of Honor: Call of Duty.

BRILLIANT!!

I hate to wake people up, but there are as many modern combat games as there is WW2 games.

They should at least go for a new direction.

I don't see why Modern Combat will help this series. Modern stuff is getting done to death, why not go into the Civil War or even try Vietnam?

They forget the part where anyone cares about Medal Of honor anymore, with the last three games being miserable piles of garbage that didn't sell at all.

Plus with each sequel the only parts they carried over were the flaws, not the fun parts. Enemies are bullet sponges and have perfect aim at any distance and always know exactly where you are. They always focus on you and only you and ignore your useless AI allies.

Call of Duty for all its pros and cons has none of these flaws.

Eh, so what. Modern shooters with modern guns and modern uniforms and all that jazz are nothing new. COD wasn't the first shooter to have an AK-47 and an M9 pistol you know.

Of course they are trying to jump on the same bandwagon that COD are riding on right now. You can't blame them. However, the last few MoH games were not very good, and if they think they can make their game better by saying "Russians! Arabs! Post- 9/11 world! Iraq! SAND! LAAAAAASSEERRR SIIIIIGHTS!!!" then they are sadly mistaken.

COD:MW was a good game that happened to be set in modern times. Throwing an AK into your game does not make it good. Case in point - SOCOM US Navy Seals Confrontation (which really is a mouthful, a terrible name really) which wasn't...... bad, in a horrible way, but wasn't anything very good either.

I predict this game to be mediocre. Again, haven't played it (by virtue of the fact that it doesn't exist yet), but I am not getting my hopes up.

They should set it in the future. And it should be called something like:

Medal Of Honor: Robot Wars? <-- with the ? included.
OR
Medal of Honor: It's good, we promise.
