Borderlands was one of the first titles I picked up when I got my PlayStation. In fact, it was a gift from a friend of mine - who with his girl friend, went halves on a copy of borderlands - as a 'thank you' because they both wanted to play games with me THAT badly.
^Friends like those - games like these = Good times.
Borderlands 2 has a lot of love and hard work going into it. There is going to be so much to explore and do, it's going to raise the bar set by the first Borderlands by a very silly and expansive margin.

I couldn't get through Bore-derlands. It lacked variety, and I am no longer entertained by randomly generated loot.
But Borderlands 2 looks like it solves that problem, and now with the Mechromancer DLC, my girlfriend can play too :P

Can't freaking wait for this game. The original was repetitive, yeah, but the combat and controls were so satisfying that just running around shooting things was a joy.
Yeah, I smell PR spin all over this. That being said, outside of that vocal fuckup, I'm willing to give Gearbox the benefit of the doubt. The Mechromancer as a class intrigues me, and they garnered enough goodwill with the first one that I'm willing to forgive two foolish sentences.
I really hope borderlands 2 doesn't have the problem that if you start hunting side missions the game becomes easy as fuck, and if you just play regularly without the firefights become far to easy and take ages.

I do wonder if they've actually changed anything about the Mechromancer, to match their PR spin.
After all, first their Aliens game blew up over the lack of playable female marines, then there was the first defense, then silence, and now recently playable female marines have been revealed for its Left 4 Dead mode (with the spin that playable females had been in the works for a while, and they just wanted to stay quiet about it until it was a done deal.)

Each character has 3 skill trees. One assists "nooby" players which one gearbox rep mistakenly called girlfriend mode. One of the other skill trees is set to require lots of skill, thought and experience to get the most of but rewards those who put the time into it.

Honestly can't wait. I haven't really been excited for a game and this one is showing me all the right reasons to be.
Based on the quote in this article, Matt Charles (and perhaps Gearbox, though it's probably unwise to tar the developer with the same brush) seems to think the reason the phrase "girlfriend mode" was insulting is because it implied that it was the "easy mode" skill tree. Which roughly nobody said. In fact, most of the articles I read about the controversy went out of their way to praise the idea of a more accessible mode for non-gamers. The offense taken was very clearly directed at the use of an unnecessary gendered term for those non-gamers.
This would seem to indicate that Gearbox is retroactively refusing to admit that "girlfriend tree/mode" was ever used by anyone on the development team, which is not a good move, IMHO, because it says to the people who were troubled by the phrase that their concerns aren't valid. An apology and attendant promise to move forward would be a much smarter move.
I haven't watched the video yet, to be clear. Perhaps it makes more sense in context.

So when is this game getting released? Gearbox's site says 18/9/12, EB Games (Gamestop in Australia) say 20/9/12 and Steam says 21/9/12... :\

What may help our blossoming kinship would be if you looked up the definition of semantics as at no point have i corrected the meaning of what you typed, I simply pointed out that there are 2 things needed to be considered. Both can exsist without cancelling each other out or making the devs look contrary. Its catering to two different skill bases, something that should be applauded instead of mocked but I see from.tour comment history that you don't really like games and negativity is your thing.

I've been trying to convince waifu to start playing, as I"m getting my ass kicked in this game... was still totally worth the $7.50 Steal of a deal it was on Steam Sale....
But ... that line.... as badly as I wanted the borderlands two shirt... I just couldn't wait 2 hours to play a game I know I'm going to buy anyways...
