ME3 and Reckoning demos will give you in-game items photo

The demo for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has a date: January 17, 2012, on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Playing it will unlock two free Reckoning-themed items for Mass Effect 3 and three items for Reckoning itself. Likewise, playing the Mass Effect 3 demo, which should hit sometime this month, will give you two items to use in Reckoning: N7 Armor and Omniblade Daggers.

The Reckoning demo will feature the tutorial and character creation segments, followed by 45 minutes to spend in part of the game's open world to do what you like. As someone who generally misses out on all the U.S. pre-order bonus DLC, playing a free demo to get more free crap in games I already want to play is something I can get behind.

Check out the full bonus item descriptions below and see what they look like in the gallery.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo item unlocks for Mass Effect 3:

  • Reckoner Knight Armor: This armor will maximize damage done in close-quarters combat while a beefed–up power cell feeds energy into weapon systems to increase projectile velocity.
  • The Chakram Launcher: This weapon uses a fabricator to manufacture lightweight, explosive ammunition discs. This weapon is earned after completing the Reckoning demo and watching the trailer at the end.

Mass Effect 3 demo item unlocks for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning:

  • N7 Armor: Players can unlock special armor inspired by Commander Shepard’s iconic N7 battle armor including Helm, Cuirass, Gauntlets, Chausses and Greaves.
  • Onmiblade Daggers: A holographic blade stemming from Commander Shepard’s Omni-Tool, the Omni-blade allows players to stab enemies in close combat. Once players install and play the Mass Effect 3 demo, they will unlock the daggers.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo item unlocks for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning:

  • Twist of Fate Card: This card boosts the player’s ice resistance and is immediately unlocked when he or she activates the Reckoning demo using his or her Origin account.
  • Twinned Souls Chakram: A unique weapon that damages enemies while boosting player health and mana in Reckoning.
  • The Infernal Helm: Unlocked after completing the Reckoning Tutorial Mode, this protective helmet increases players’ fire damage throughout Amalur.

damn... I had no interest in that Kingdoms of Amalur game, but looks as if I'm gonna have to play that demo, because I love free shit. genius marketing move, though.

Sweet, i'm more excited for the kingdoms of amalur demo than any of the little free items.

OMNIBLADE DAGGERS.

That sounds amazing.

I still have lost interest in ME3, but Amalur is shaping up to be something awesome. I kinda like the cross-promos that EA does with their games. Issac Clarke was in Skate 3, had DA2 armour....just once, I would love to see a huge EA game with everyone from Eddie Riggs to Faith in one huge game.

Or, you know, Brütal Legend 2.

I'll do it for the ME gear.

There are 3 extra items for Reckoning that you get by playing the Reckoning demo, and for some reason that info wasn't in the European press release. I've put them in the post.

The Reckoner armor looks awesome. Hopefully it has a semitransparent faceplate like the Cerberus and Inferno armors in ME2. I like being able to see Shep's face during the cutscenes.

Well, I want to try out Reckoning anyway, so this is great! No way I'm trying the ME3 demo though

Super excited to play both games and this is a cool way to drum up interest for them(especially Amalur). I really have a hard time deciding if I like(not love) or hate EA at times....Y U SO TSUNDERE EA?

Excited for both and love this way of cross promotion. Better the having to buy one game to get something in another, ex: Dead Space 2 armor in Dragon Age 2.

Well since I'm interested in both of these games, I will most certainly play both of these. This is a type of promotion and freebies I fully support.

*praying that both Amalur and ME3 don't require Origin*

This doesn't sound too bad. Sound kinda neat, actually.

Good move.

We get to play two solid Demos and unlocking free items for both games, a lot better than retailer specific pre-order incentives.

I agree with Occams, I'm excited for both of these games. I will totally use the N7 armor and blahblah daggers in Amalur. :DDDD stabbystabby

I'm very excited for amalur, so this is great. Maybe the me3 demo will change my mind on it, but its in my "to buy used for $30 pile" as of now.

Worked with Dead space 2 and Dragon age 2. Though if I remember correctly the "Ser Isaac of clarke" armour was pretty shitty.

I'm very interested in Amalur, do I'll do this for teh lootz.

This intrigues me, but it would be pretty disappointing if the gear can't be unlocked after beating the game somehow.

Not a bad cross promotion. I vastly prefer this to having a million different pre-order bonuses, though I'm sure those will be happening as well.

Well, it looks like 360 for me. I really want Mass Effect 3 on the PC, which is what I played the first two on, but EA has gone crazy with DRM, so it's not going to happen.

It is almost as if EA doesn't want people to hate them anymore. Will wonders never cease?
Sincerely though, there is no reason not to check out both demos as being demos containing freebies, the price is always right...unless it isn't worth one's valuable time at all.
