Here it is, you filthy dogs, the trailer for Hollywood's next attempt at making money off the games industry, Max Payne. What can one say? It looks like your typical action movie to me. Lots of guns and fire and explosions and gruff voices, all the good stuff.

Apathy aside, the actual Max Payne of the title seems to be a doing pretty good job of capturing the character's disaffected narration. It has a very classy look to it as well. That said, everything looks great in trailer form, so we'll see if Max Payne is anywhere near as stylish as its videogame namesake. I'm going to wager a no, because I am an embittered cynic.

Who cares Bhive? I am a HUGE Max Payne fan and this movie finally looks like someone is paying attention to the original source material.

Needless to say, I'm psyched. Hopefully they will do a little more than just your standard action movie and actually show the depth of the character.

Thanks Jim, this seriously just made the start of my day awesome.

What's with the winged creature pulling the guy out the window at the end? I don't remember that happening in the game.

How can Hollywood mess this up?

It's all shooting, explosions and bullet-time. Throw in a half-ass story and this could be halfway decent.

I'm looking forward to it.

Looks just like the game, he even jumps forward in the same way. But ehm, WTF IS THAT CROW-MAN THING AT THE END??!?!?!

. . . the CRPW-MAN is a metaphor . . . right!?!?!?

That looks pretty freaking good, actually, for a game-to-movie adaptation. The tone is spot on, from the visuals, gun shooting, and music. And Wahlberg fits the role well, or at least better than what I would have imagined Hollywood to throw into the role.

I think the fantastical elements are dream elements. Not like the game, but similar, I guess. As long as I don't have to see him walk a maze of thin lines from one place to another like the game, I'm okay with stylistic dream elements.

I know I only played the second Max Payne game, but I know for a fact weird ass bird/demon creatures never showed up. I sure as hell hope those are dream sequences and not some attempt to make the story mystical or something.

Everything else looks great, imo, but I wonder if people who have never played the game will understand the flying things (I played one and I don't even necessarily get it). I fear that showing them like that will make people think the movie is something it isn't (maybe more akin to Constantine), which could both help or hinder its reception by certain moviegoers. Odd decision on the marketing department's side, for sure.

Thankfully the producers of this movie decided to shun the whole xXx and fast and the furious audience and have attempted (looks successfully) to adapt the feel of the game quite well.

Oh and agreed, the dark-angel thing WTF?!?!? Still visually amazing.

Could this fall the same faith as Silent Hill?

Weird they went with the sci fi angle, but I suppose. Why not? Its not like Max Payne was very far from that, with their weird drug cults and crazy crackhead bosses. As long as their are still crazy gun fights with baddies, I'm happy. Slow motion, bullet-time glory never gets old. Bring on the Payne!

I had pretty much written this off when I first heard about it, but that didn't look all that bad. There might be hope for this yet.

I'd put the whole flying angel/crow people down to a drug trip or something. Or so I hope...

The "crowmen" are probably a hallucination from "V" or "Valkyr". In the first Max Payne game Max was injected with it twice and both times he had some of the creepiest nightmare sequences I've ever seen in a video game.

Long hallways that extend and seem to never end, false doorways, strange hallucinations that made people look all crazy. Not to mention the scariest scream i've ever heard during the "blood trail" sections (for those who've played it know what I mean).

Wow... just wow. I mean a lota games get made into movies.. most suck.. this looks good. No matter how it turns out, its obviously one of the ones on me "I'll watch regardless" list. One because I love Max Payne, and two, because it looks like no matter how "good" it is or isn't, its obviously going to be entertaining!

I'm thinking the crow things are his inner demons manifesting themselves in his world. Like he's either dreaming, hallucinating or going insane.

These guys should have watched Shoot 'Em Up a few times before getting to work on a Max Payne movie, they might have learned a thing or two about how it's supposed to be done.

Aside from the crow man, which is probably from a dream sequence anyway, it looks like a faithful adaptation of the games. It should be pretty good as long as it has Max Payne's bullet-time action sequences and melodramatic monologues.

looks kickass, and the winged dudes are most likely a part of his nightmare, like he has to fight the bad guys and the demons within him if he's to be happy.

I just hope they put in a similar scene from the first Max Payne game, where Max thinks he is in a graphic novel and then repeats the process, and thinks he is inside a video game.

Would be cool if there was some 4th wall breaking in the movie too...

And to answer one of the more common questions: The "Crow-Man" is a metaphor for the Angel of Death, either Michael or Samael, who had black wings.

...damn, I'm a nerd. And the trailer freakin' rocked.

You could do a lot worse than Marky Mark as Max. I loved both MP games, and this looks like they really stick to the source material and the 'Payne". I'll see it...But I liked the Hitman movie...Maybe I'm a sucker when they don't totally fuck up series I love with the movies.

(I know there were some deviations from the Hitman 'canon' in the film, but I thought they did a pretty solid job all things considered)

meh, to me it just seems like they took a generic action/thriller script and stuck Max Payne on the title.
Some parts do look good but I'm being cautiously optimistic after watching a slew of dissapointing "films based off games" tie ins
