It doesn't look like the s**t is going to stop hitting the fan any time soon for Rockstar Games, no matter how much of a joke they want to make about it. While Rockstar San Diego has been the main focus of most of the working condition complaints, it seems that Rockstar Vancouver is pulling the same crap, and being just as mismanaged.
Speaking with Joystiq, an anonymous, former Rockstar Vancouver employee said, "Virtually everything said in the original 'Rockstar wives' letter and by current and former Rockstar San Diego employees in the comments applies to my experience at Rockstar Vancouver."
He notes the multiple delays of Max Payne 3, and says that even the recent third delay's deadline is most likely not going to be hit. "The game's story just went through another total re-write earlier this month (the third that I am aware of in the past two years) and that [means] the team would have to have all of the content done by April or May to make that August release date,” he said.
Evidently, the devs over at Rockstar Vancouver are working 14-16 hour days and their holiday vacation time was cut out as well. I know that putting a game out takes a lot of work and many long hours, but this does sound a bit more extreme than usual and gives me absolutely no hope for Max Payne 3 to be any good. Usually I wouldn't complain before we even see the game in action but those screen shots looked so far removed from the gritty film noir aesthetic of the first two games.
Kill me now.
"So, he lost his wife and kid, drinks all the time, and somehow ended up in one of the most dangerous places in the world. How can we make it any worse for him?"
"See his own movie?"
Yeah, I'm going to call 'let this one die'.
Those jobs ranged from small business to gigantor corporation.
As far as I'm concerned, these are usually the steadfast rules of being employed:
1) All your co-workers are idiots.
2) You're always smarter than you boss
There's a word they made up for it somewhere... umm.. what is it now.. Oh yeah.. Work.
I wish games were cheap enough to be scrapped and started over, but budgets now-a-days are way too high to do something like that. I just wonder what the hell Rockstar was thinking when they took Max Payne and threw out the entire noir feel of the series for a generic looking shooter feel. WTF? It defies reason.
thats my hopes dashed for a bully 2
The Houser brothers and their "anti-videogame logic" philosophy on game design embodies everything that I don't like about gaming today. To hear that they are terrible bosses as well just validates my opinion that they are generally misguided.
Shame about red dead redemption if it doesn't make release tho...
What the Hell is up with RockStar all of a sudden? First the employee complaints, Red Dead, and now this?
Also, another total rewrite?
If this game doesn't come out, I'll kill myself. HNNNNNNNNNNG
I've pretty much written off Rockstar until the next GTA.
So misguided they have one of the most popular franchises ever under their belts and a rabid fanbase.
And what is "anti-videogame logic"? I have a feeling it is some sort of idea on your part that they lose out on real gameplay for story and cinematic concerns. The problem with that is you do not decide what gameplay is. I'm sure you were raised on Mario and the like and consider that gameplay, but I was raised on Zork and Space Quest... to me, GTA is much more gameplay filled than a Mario game, which is more a pure kid's toy.
Oh yes, I said that.
The point is that what gameplay is depends on the person and probably what they were playing during their early formative years.
It coud be just as he said, or this could be someone fired for not doing his job well and vindictivly trying to bad mouth the company. Without knowing what this guy did or why he no longer works there, it's hard to say. Especially when A LOT of games nowadays get delays and rewrites since competition is so high with so many great games releasing.
Time will tell. There's simply nothing to back up this mystery man's take at this point.
I don't know about you guys, but red dead redemption looks amazing, even though that spouse says that the game is in deep trouble. with the amount of stuff and assessts rock star has shown off, surely if the game was in that bad a shape, we would have seen nothing on it, whereas we have been fed steady streams of info and videos?
We're in the middle of a recession and motherfuckers are complaining about TOO much work. Nice. Just give me Red Dead Redemption on time and in amazing shape, thanks.
