Max and the Magic Marker may be the best WiiWare game yet photo

Okay, I know I am being dramatic -- there are a lot of great WiiWare games out there (well, not that many). But after watching video of one of Max and the Magic Marker's demo levels, you will easily agree that this game deserves as much hyperbole as possible.

To be honest, I didn’t even know this game existed until today (thanks, Adam!). It’s a WiiWare puzzle/platformer from small Copenhagen-based indie studio Press Play, and, boy, does it look freakin’ incredible.

Looking like a welcome combination of Kirby Canvas Curse and Crayon Physics, Max and the Magic Marker has players controlling young boy Max, in an effort to get rid of the monster he created with his magic marker. The game utilizes a unique drawing mechanic that turns everything you draw into a usable object in the game. For instance, as Max journeys through the game’s beautiful side-scrolling levels, he may need protection from a waterfall of acid. Just draw an umbrella-shaped object and that can be used to shield Max from the poison. While this concept sounds a lot like Warner Bros.’s Sribblenauts, the main difference is that the objects you create are not real objects generated by word recognition -- they appear in the game exactly as you draw them!

Sadly, my explanation of this revolutionary game is not nearly as cool as video of the game in action. Hit the jump, watch the demo, and prepare to be amazed!

Check out the game’s official Web site for a few more details of this extremely promising WiiWare exclusive. Let’s all hope and pray the final game turns out to be as fantastic as this demo. Seriously, this could be Game of the Year good.

Yeah, it looks pretty good. No doubt the best WiiWare game YET. (Not counting the multi-platform Mega Man 9.)

It's gonna be a real challenge to balance this mechanic, though, so I'm gonna stay a bit skeptical about this until I see more.

what an amazing game, especially for the wii. Nintendo must have to shell out a bunch for an exclusive b/c this would be a goldmine on LIVE.

Looks nice, I just hope it makes you use more different drawings than Crayon Physics.

@Spitfire
I don't know man. I doubt the 360 could pull off the drawing mechanic very well.

It's like some bizarro Drawn to Life or something. And I like it. Also, this game makes me sad because it makes me feel like I was one of the not so many people who loved Kirby: Canvas Curse.

@Chad

I loved Kirby Canvas Curse but I also played Kirby Super Star inbetween to change it up a little. I was in pink blob heaven.

Crayon Physics and Harold and the Purple Crayon rolled into one video game goodness. It looks to be like a platformer, but can you use the crayon power to wield a weapon or something?

Yes, another awesome looking Wiiware game. For those of you interested in 2D platformers on Wiiware, check out the early footage of Icarian Kindred Spirits. That looks excellent as well.

Best Wiiware game yet? That title belongs to Bit. Trip Beat, actually.

This game has severely broken my heart. I've spent the last 6 months with 7 other guys developing a game that is essentially the same as this.

This is everything i wanted my game to be, but better.

Seriously, Its like Press Play fucked me, made a baby then took it away, and that baby grew up to be a harvard grad.
