Massachusetts Governor dubs 9/9/09 'Video Game Innovation Day' photo

In honor of the release of Boston-based Harmonix Music Systems' The Beatles: Rock Band, Governor Deval Patrick has proclaimed September 9, 2009 "Video Game Innovation Day" in the state of Massachussets.

While the proclamation was obviously spurred by the release of the Fab Four title, Patrick makes a good case for Massachussets and gaming. In 2008, the videogame companies in the state generated over $3 billion in sales. Looking back at gaming history, one of the first games ever created, Spacewar!, was designed by MIT students in 1961.

Despite all of the hype, I don't know if The Beatles: Rock Band is as important as Spacewar!, but it is damned good. Who's playing today, Video Game Innovation Day, and what do you think?

I've been too busy playing Canabalt all day.

For those of you who missed the article yesterday.

But good, some politician does something that actually looks at games positively. That's worth noting.

Boston devs actually are of pretty high calibur Harmonix likes to point out...a lot.

That said Boston kicks as in general so no surprises there. If only I could live there. It'd be Freezepop, Bang Camaro, Jaon Jett, and VAGIANT concerts every night motherfucker.

Awesome for this and if I found out this earlier I would have used it as excuse to call out. Also in the title you spelled Massachusetts correctly but in the article you didn't.

Actually Boston politicians have been crediting Harmonix and 2K Games for upping the cities entertainment value for a long time. When I was down there Rock Band had just been announced and Bioshock was in the works and the radios, papers, and local magazines were going completely gaga. In fact there was a time when it was rumored they might host their own convention but that was 100% bull shit.

Remember when 6/6/06 was supposed to be the day that "the Anti-Christ would reveal himself", and all that happened was some shitty movie came out.

Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face.
The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown.:
The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save Us!"...:
...and I'll look down, and whisper, "No".:

Well... I'm glad to not hear something NEGATIVE in the news from politicians, for once. "Video Game Innovation Day" --- Wow that title might be a bit TOO much. That's a nice gesture and all, but Mr. Mayor here has missed out on, 30 years of gaming? So finally there's a game he wants to play, and now games are an innovation? OK. Sure. It still proves that politicians are out of touch with the generally populous, but thanks for NOT bashing games today.

I live in Massachusetts and did not find out about this until just now! And I listened to talk radio for an HOUR tonight! The fuck!

Also, Deval is actually quite shit as far as being a governor, but this makes me want to maybe give him a high five.
