Mass Effect DLC now available for PC photo

For those of you with short memories, Bring Down the Sky is the only downloable content released so far for Bioware’s Mass Effect. The DLC was originally released for the 360 version back in March for the price of 400 Microsoft points ($5).

PC owners might have needed to wait a few extra months to explore the new uncharted planet and play through the estimated 90 minutes of additional gameplay, but, as promised, won’t have to pay an extra cent for it. Just launch the game and you’ll be prompted to download the DLC along with patch 1.01, which makes a few minor fixes.

While the people that bought the DLC on the 360 might be feeling a bit grumpy that they had to pay for it, keep in mind that the PC version took longer to come out and is packing some terribly stupid DRM.

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (July 29, 2008) –  Leading video game developer BioWare™, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), has announced that "Bring Down the Sky," the first piece of downloadable content for the award-winning space epic Mass Effect™, is now available for PC gamers to download free1 of charge.

Fully optimized for the PC, "Bring Down the Sky" is the first in a series of planned downloadable content that will further expand the Mass Effect story and universe.  It includes a new uncharted world that introduces the deadly Batarian alien race, approximately 90 minutes of new gameplay and an original soundtrack.  Instructions on how to download and install the new content is available at http://masseffect.bioware.com/downloadablecontent/. "Bring Down the Sky" is currently available for international languages including English, Spanish, Italian and German, with additional language versions coming soon.

The storyline for the new content begins as Batarian extremists have hijacked a mobile asteroid station in the Asgard system, setting it on a collision course with the nearby colony world of Terra Nova.  Only Commander Shepard can save the millions of innocent civilians before the asteroid completes its deadly descent.

Originally released for the Xbox 360™ videogame and entertainment system, "Bring Down the Sky" has received critical acclaim as one of the "must have" downloadable expansion packs.  Mass Effect has also received critical acclaim throughout the world with more than 80 awards including Console Game of the Year and Role-Playing Game of the Year, with the PC version achieving several perfect 10/10 scores and an overall review average of over 90%2 (http://masseffect.bioware.com/previewsawards/).

PC gamers can download and install "Bring Down the Sky" by simply launching their registered copy of Mass Effect for the PC and following the instructions at the launch screen.  For more information about Mass Effect, please visit www.masseffect.com.

Make sure, guys! The only reason EA withdrew the even nastier original version was because we complained like the unsatisfied bitches we are, and still we got (slightly less) screwed! Keep up the whine! Make sure they need the cheese! And for god's sake, keep them from dragging it into Spore!

Complain FTW

I thought the Xbox DLC was supposed to come packed with the PC version?

Speaking of Mass Effect DLC, is Bringing Down the Sky the only one they are going to do? I thought there would be more, especially considering the first one only had 50GS of achievements when up to 250 can be done with DLC. Buy bringing Downt the Sky wasn't that great anyways, not worth the $5 IMO - so I guess I'd rather have them work on Mass Effect 2.

minor fixes in the patch? It's too bad people are complaining on the Bioware boards that the game in unplayable unless you disable your sound drivers.

I know I shelled out the cash for the PC version and despite having a machine that can run it two times over the game still fails to work. It's taken over a month now for support?

Thanks.

They'll have to offer more than some crummy DLC if they want my money after abandoning the platform that made them to make console games and (months later) half-assed ports with little to no support among other problems.

I love how the patch doesn't fix the bugs that don't make it unplayable. I download all ~400 megabytes, install, and run it. It crashes less than a minute in.

Son of a bitch. I read "Mass Effect DLC" and had a heart attack before I could read "now available for PC."

To any 360 owners who are whining: boo hoo, we got it months earlier. And you're overlooking the fact that it costs all of $5.

Paying is still paying. I personally would rather have my $5 than not.

As long as 360 owners keep buying and paying for LIVE and DLC, it won't change.
