One of the characters is wearing glasses, which is something not a single other character in the series has been shown to do. I don't get the impression that Production I.G. particularly cared about doing much homework on the series.
Whoa, sorry for the blank post. Mobile. Anyway, I'm a huge, *huge* Mass Effect fanboy, but I just don't see myself buying this. I love anime and I love Mass Effect, but I don't even like James Vega.

@Gamescook - I don't think anyone wearing glasses is a problem in ME, maybe his family was ethically or religiously opposed to genetic modification. ME is pretty good at hand-waving away most explanation for its science fiction.

I played every mass effect and most of the dlc and I must admit that this looks like nothing I would ever be interested in. Why not do something animated in the style of the comics ? Never read one, but they look at least artisticly solid and like Mass Effect.
The video above just looks like super generic anime XYZ.
Could be better than anything animated from Dead Space though. That stuff was atrocious.

I am probably in the super minority, but I was ok with Vega. He didn't grab me like other squaddies (Garrus and Tali 4 lyfe) but I didn't find him as terrible as some people say he is. Ashley though, she can get on my nerves after prolonged exposure.
I liked Vega, and the guy gets a bad wrap for inane reasons, but I don't really need an anime. He explains everything you need to know in two scenes (the sparring match and his N7 chat), so to see it all expanded in a movie, well, it seems redundant.
This comes down to the same thing as always. People think they could've picked something (someone better). I didn't mind Vega although I did rage when he replaced Thane and Legion.
The fans overall weren't interested in another human character when Mass Effect has such a diverse cast. Why have another Space Marine when you could've had any number of other species and character types?

I really don't get the hate for Vega. It's either because he looks like a dumb jock (thank you for the stereotypes) or because he's voiced by FPJ.

People don't like Vega because he's a wooden, uninteresting character. It has very little to do with him being a musclehead, there are plenty of those in gaming that are likeable.
Vega was pretty useful as a character on the higher difficulties, at least if/before Ashley was available. But as for the character himself, he's right down there with Kaiden as my least favorite in the whole series. Can't believe that roster spot was given to him instead of all the great characters from ME2 :-(
personally i woudlve preferred garrus during his c-sec days or better yet one about the war between the reapers and protheans with the main character being javik. im still on my first playthrough of the game(up to the part where tali and legion get on the ship) but i feel like javik will never reach the potential he couldve had because they made him dlc instead of being part of the vanilla story. i mean come on its a effing prothean for gods sake! thats important shit right there

Also, something about the movement in this vid that doesn't look right. As long as the drawings aren't moving, they look ok. But when they move, it looks like a bunch of pieced together smaller drawings that don't fit smoothly together.

I would much rather see Production IG get in to game development and help some awesome western studio put together an amazing Ghost in the Shell game.
I think I know why people don't like James Vega. It's because he looks like one of those rejects off of that show Jersey Shore.
Put me in the boat for liking Vega. (And not knowing why he wasn't a romantic option . . ) As far as unlikable, boring as hell Mass Effect companions go, he's certainly no Jacob, Kaiden, or Miranda.
And he's not even in the same star system of bad that that reporter lady dwells in. Think of how horrendous an anime adaptation of her life would be.

I found actually giving Vega a chance and you know, talking to him, showed he was a cool guy with some depth. Not the best character or anything, but a decent one.

this is just a stupid marketing ploy by Funimation(who is bad at making animation, great dub and subs though) to lure people in since Production IG makes one of the best animation ever.
despite the criticism of the ending. you can't deny that Mass Effect has one of the richest lore in a sci fi series.
it deserves more than this.
but will see how this folds out.

I'm having a hard time imagining an anime-looking Shephard, although his head probably looks like a well-polished toe like the guy in that video.
Vega is one of my favorite video game characters of all time, what with the mask and wolverine claims and ... what?

I personally don't understand why James has a dedicated anime to himself, he's just not strong enough as a character to carry a feature-length production.
EA-BioWare put Vega in ME3 for the 12 guys that actually bought ME3 hoping to have another Gears game to play, with online coop and all, so they wouldn't be bored with other alien characters talking too much intellectual stuff during the frequent adrenaline-pumping shooting sequences.
Mass Effect 3 was mildly entertaining, if a bit bland, as long as you played it in 1 hour long bursts expecting a flashy action game with "RPG elements".
As a third iteration to the Mass Effect series, it was a complete disgrace.

Vega was a little better then I thought he'd be, and, really, if no one ever told me that was Prinz Jr. I wouldn't have figured it out (cause his voice is unremarkable).. But, honestly, I could care less about following his character around all that much.
Unless they let Cortez be a constant character so they can bicker like housewives.. Really the only way Vega was worth bothering with most of that time.

Honestly would die if they gave us a Thane Krios anime. I'd really like a better look at life as an alien, on alien worlds, in this universe, without outright conflict hanging over their heads, rather then more "Oh, we're humans, lets follow the human's around all the time" (Mass Effect feels kind of racist in that effect.. Xenophobic?)
Thane being an Assassin gives us a way to have tons of action, drama and other stuff, without sacrificing much when it comes the core of the series. Tons of depth and conflict with that character that was completely overshadowed by everything else going on in the games he was in.
