I'm under the impression that either you only read that one sentence or I need to rephrase my comment.
I mean, yes, this is a relatively minor spoiler that wouldn't, or rather shouldn't, ruin someones experience with the game. What I was trying to get across is that it's another spoiler I've seen on this site; second on a list that I hope is not growing.
Don't give me that crap about being on a tight budget, they're being supported by E-FREAKING-A, one of (if not) THE biggest gaming publishers in the world. They (apparently) have a large team of talented artists, and the best they could come up with for a character everybody has been waiting 5 years to see is a god damn badly edited stock image.
People on Reddit have been having competitions to see who can use photoshop to recreate the same image and some shops were up within minutes displaying even better artistry than Bioware themselves.
And on a humorous note, Bioware have been mass deleting forum posts about this on their official boards. Thank fuck some gaming sites still have some balls about them unlike some *cough*Kotaku*cough*.
honestly, this whole game just screamed lazyness, all the good bits were things built up from the first 2 games
"Reference" implies that you used your own perspective and talent to draw something from scratch based upon a photo, model, etc. This is basically just photo manipulation. It's the same photo with a filter change and some very minor drawing.
I don't care about the stock image -- it just doesn't make any sense.
They can always rework what quarians look like.
Honestly, they never should have shown her face at all. It's kind of like when Evey is considering unmasking V in V for Vendetta. No matter who it was under there, it could never live up to your expectations.
This video explains a bit of the problems with the game. It's a pretty good video.
What's even more funny though is that when you think about it, all of Mass Effect's character designs are this lazy. All they did for the whole game is find an actor they like and copy their face. The only design was really from the neck up, and that was just copy and pasted. The rest is just standard space suit. So yeah, this is really just par for the course in a game with very lazy character designs.
Anything for a couple hundred page hits, right Jim?
Just because the hypercritical sleuths aren't on the case, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Talis face, and her race are major story elements, they have their own lore. People get invested into game stories just as much as others get into TV, movie or book stories.
And while this may seem nonimportant to many this is the Phantom Menance, Indiana 4 or Spiderman 3 to those invested.
It also makes you wonder, if Bioware was lazy on this major lore element, what ELSE were they lazy with?
With Tali, since you don't see her face in a live cut-scene, they just combined two elements; instead of just basing it on a model they took a reference photo that already existed and added the skin tone and other cosmetic/alien additions they would have if they had gone the normal design route for showing Tali speaking with her mask off.
The woman in the Getti Stock photo is Tali much in the same way Mark Vanderloo is Shepard and Yvonne Strahovski is Miranda and so on.
The tali face thing was something the fans where invested in, just changing a picture of some random around a bit is pathetic.
Ultimately the fact the she looks human is just pandering to their creepy as fuck fanbase, fuck BioWare.

Agreed. What a sleezy slob.
I'm right there with you, brother. Helping Tali and her people find a homeworld where they could breathe freely was something I've been pining over since I played her loyalty mission in ME2. I've been hoping for the face reveal since ME1. I can't begin to express how disappointing that is to me. I cared more about that than saving Earth from Reapers. Seriously. I almost hope they release it as a DLC quest.
I say that, but then again, I did notice creative-common licensed stock photography being sold as posters in IKEA last week.
It just disgusts me when the resources are available and shortcuts are taken to Not put something new into the world, but reuse something that's free or worth a cup of coffee.
Frakkin' cheapasses.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't Quarians have less fingers and differently shaped faces?
I'll probably pass on this for the same reason I skipped the last season of Lost
