As much as I like Mass Effect, I would love it if this backfired. Imagine, the UK government releases evidence and, in the resulting hysteria... everyone forgets about Mass Effect 3. :P

In fact, it would take them even LESS time to refrain from being idiots than it took you to type that statement. The simple act of getting everyone riled up about this is completely uncalled for. Government resources should not be used to advertise a damn video game. The fact it will take them 5mins is irrelevant.

Because this is agame that really, really needs every last drop of ridiculous advertisement. The long trailers on every advert break and the big posters everywhere around the country just aren't enough, apparently. Who even knows what Mass Effect 3 is? Who ever played the other two? ME3 is just a tiny little game and it needs to go to extreme, incredible, stupid lengths to get noticed.

Oh well, instead of just bribing politicians they're wasting their time. It's painfully unfunny though - there's a bit of a clever idea here but it wasn't executed right.

I just feel that, with the state of things today, we should not waste any more of the the government's time than they are wasting themselves. The fact that a petition with enough signatures (100k I believe) could actually force this silly shit into a legitimate government hearing makes the whole thing look incredibly immature. Even if it only takes a minute to bring up and brush to the side, it's a waste of time. And no matter how funny it might seem, it's still inappropriate - like most good jokes.
But it made Jim Sterling say "Christ almighty" so I guess it's worth it after all. :P

to be honest on the face of it i find it offensive that people are being rallied to waste the governments time to promote a video game.

There's another that hates all console games. There's another that hates anything and everything EA has anything to do with. There's another that hates anything and everything Bioware has anything to do with.
This game has the unfortunate distinction to fall into all those categories simultaneously, thus drawing a HUGE amount of ire from people with pet peeves. I would love if the UK government did this, but then billed EA for a million dollars on time spent getting the information.

I'm not bothered by this. It's certainly a subject that many people consider worthy of investigation, and it isn't as if 10,000 EA employees are being forced to add their signatures. If a person considers it a worthy endeavor to freely add his or her name, great, that's the individual's decision to make. If they don't, that's fine as well.

@Tristix: Your hate breakdown is so true. I'm tired of all the negativity. I love checking peoples comment history after they spew hate 3months after somethings been out and see if they really didn't like or just jumped on the hate train. Chugga Choo Choo! Why is it soooo cool to be such negative dicks nowdays? Actual bullshit and such always needs to be called out, but hating needs to stop. This is just a stupid marketing ploy, most of those UFO documents where already released, the problem with this petition is that if it gets enough signatures, it must be discussed in parliament, there are real, actual issues that need to discussed there, some dumb shit for a mediocre videogame isn't one of them.
Ugh, I like Bioware still, and I'm still going to play Mass Effect 3. But this shit is just... depressing. It has to be the same fucking person doing all this delusional marketing. Way too many got too upset over this. Obviously the UK didn't pay the troll toll so now EA jumped at the opportunity. This petition is just a commentary by EA on how much of a joke modern government has become. People need to just see the humor in things.
I actually find this quite a nice troll campaign, I know they will make it to the required amount of signatures and it will troll the government of the UK.
