"Let's go back and have Final Fantasy VII rewritten so Aerith doesn't die!"
No, that's miles away from people where complaining about. A "hapy ending" aint the point at all. But if you spent any time looking into any of this you'd know that.

I totally agree MassEffect is "mass art" and I think that most people do not understand the difference between "mass art" and "high art"
If any of the games of the series had any artistic integrity it would be the first one, because there was no huge fan base for them to appeal to.
Sorry, but no. You can only 'clarify' so much about a shitty ending until it becomes an outright joke, sorry and all, but you can' expect people to download something, free or not, to make up for something that should, in all fairness, have been the focal point of the development process, insofar as this was the ending to a trilogy.
They can keep their downloadable nonsense, thanks, I'll gladly avoid the probable botched attempt at making this pretentious artsy bollox seem in any way respectable, and move on with my life.
They really should just move on, they won't please people, and only risk suffering more damage to their reputation as a developer.
As for the fans, just learn from the experience and move on. I was a preorder, CE edition, die hard bioware fan since as far back as KoToR 1. So while I'm disappointed with the less than stellar ending, I'm just using that emotion to modify my behavior. From now on Bioware is no longer that preorder CE purchase. It's now a wait and see 30-40 dollar purchase. If they fix their issues and start pumping out quality again I'll upgrade them.
Regardless, this is how it works folks. If a dev drops the ball, stop supporting them, they'll get the hint and fix it or eventually go away in failure. It's a simple system really. Sure it takes time, but that's life.
Hope this pleases some fans and it teaches Bioware
to not rush games like that anymore.
I doubt it will change much though...
People saying this is a sad day for the industry .... sad how?
Because they now know that if your build yourself up to a level of expected quality, that half assed isn't going to cut it and you will be expected to fix it (because you have the tools to do so)?
Oh dat double edged DLC sword, It taketh money from your customers but it also allows the dev/pubs to be held accountable for halfassary. I'd call that almost poetic equivalent exchange.
Perhaps I end up wrong about the epilogues, but if I'm not I really hope they don't include N7 maps with it. That would be a kick in the balls.
Or to put it another way: Why in the fuck are you long-time BioWare fans still buying their games on day 1 for $60? If you want to stop being fucked in the ass so hard then at least stop paying for the expensive lube sheesh.
Aslo, no Bison or Yes Man?

Or maybe it just means I had less bullshit to romanticize and fewer purchases that needed further justification.
I did read the codex, too. Shepard was being indoctrinated, pretty damn obvious to me. My question is how the more serious fans miss that. They had five years to my three weeks.
It is not the fact that the ending is sad or even a lousy pay off or lacked "clarity".
The ending is bad because it uses bonehead retard logic. Seriously the goal of the Star Child was to prevent synthetics from killing organics by killing organics before they can make synthetic life with synthetic life made from organics.
Really? REALLY?! Is this god-like being so infinitely stupid? What kind of moon logic is that?! "I'm going to prevent you from choking yourself by choking you with your own fingers! I R SMORT."
I mean really the Reapers aligned themselves with the Geth Renegades, the things they were designed to stop according to Star "Short-bus" Child.
From what I have read, clarification is fine. I've rarely seen anyone who wants the ending completely changed. I don't want it changed they just should have explained some things. Text would have been fine actually.
And if as Skyblade says they are being taken off creating more paid DLC (I'd be highly skeptical of this) then good. Anything that stops this post-launch service crap is a good outcome for consumers. EA nickel and dimed the hell of of people with ME2. I didn't realise until today that they had the nerve to charge for all the weapon and skin items on the PSN store despite it all being made and released on 360 the previous year. All the proof you need that they hold things back for more money.
Seconded. Haven't any of you people experienced fiction before? Sometimes it's so good you shoot a huge load in your pants. Sometimes it breaks your heart because it's so bad, or incoherent, or because you love the characters so much. You take your lumps like a man.
I don't understand how your reaction can be to demand a different ending. I don't understand how you can think you're entitled to that.
...
Except this is only free for a year, implying that this was planned to be paid DLC, but they changed it because of the outrage.
..And that the producer is quoted here saying "BioWare has "reprioritized" its post-launch efforts" implying again that it was planned, just not to be released so soon.
...And the female Shepherd actor said recently that she was never called back to do any extra lines, implying AGAIN that if there is voice work in this DLC that it was planned from the beginning, and already worked on.
So yeah, don't think this is a win for consumers and fans. This was clearly already planned, EA/Bioware are just taking advantage of the rage some fans have to make themselves look like they really care, and to try and spur more sales of the game.
They are a giant corporations, they will NEVER EVER CARE.
I think EA is sleazy. But let's not go over board by making them out to be Lex Luthor with this all being part of some grand design. I don't think this was planned. I think this game was rushed out 2-3 months before it was ready. It's a Dragon Age 2 redux.
Whatever they give us, they have damaged the Bioware brand further, and that of the Mass Effect IP. It got them a lot of media attention, but I'd wager it burned them more than any gesture will repair.
They're keeping the turd endings, which already make little sense as is, and just trying to expand on it will only make it worse.
